A box of 50 Nemtek Compression Spring 1 tensioners for full fence jobs and installers who keep stock. Each one is the standard 5kg electric fence spring tensioner from Nemtek: a silver stainless steel spring in a black UV stabilised plastic body that fits in line on the wire and holds the strand tight. Nemtek rates it for wire up to 1.2mm and any type of fence wire. For a repair or one extra line, the single spring is on its own page.

What's in the box

  • 50 Nemtek Compression Spring 1 tensioners, black body (ES-CNT)

How many springs does a fence need?

Nemtek does not state a springs-per-fence figure. Count the strands you will tension on your own layout and keep spares; on a six or eight line fence the number climbs quickly, which is why the box of 50 exists. Each spring also needs a large tail hook to link it to the end bobbin, so pair the box with a pack of hooks.

Same spring as the single

Nothing changes but the quantity. Silver is Nemtek's standard 5kg tension class, rated for wire up to 1.2mm, so it is the match for 1.2mm galvanised and 1.2mm stainless steel wire. Gold is the medium 8kg class that Nemtek pairs with 1.6mm aluminium wire, sold here as the Hybrid Compression Spring 2 in a 50 pack. These silver springs are also what we supply in our 6 line and 8 line fence kits on 1.6mm aluminium wire; if you want more pull on aluminium, step up to gold.

Fits in line on the wire, not on the post

The spring sits in the wire run at the end of a strand, hooked to a flat bar or round bar bobbin. It does not bolt to the bracket or post. Nemtek's instruction sheet has you preload the spring with a nail before fixing the wire with a ferrule or line clamp.

Stainless spring, plastic body

The spring is stainless steel and the black body is UV stabilised plastic, not a coating. The plastic inner stops galvanic reaction between spring and wire. Nemtek rates the spring for -40 to 80°C and 0 to 12kV. The box of 50 is our quantity; Nemtek lists no pack size for the spring.

Questions people ask
How many springs do I need for my fence?

Nemtek does not state a figure. Count the strands you will tension on your layout and add spares. A box of 50 covers most home boundaries with some left over.

Is it the same spring as the single?

Yes. The Nemtek Compression Spring 1 (ES-CNT), standard 5kg, black body. Only the quantity differs.

Can I use these on 1.6mm aluminium wire?

Nemtek rates the silver spring for wire up to 1.2mm and pairs 1.6mm aluminium wire with the gold 8kg Hybrid Compression Spring 2. Our 6 line and 8 line fence kits are supplied with these silver springs on 1.6mm aluminium wire. For more pull on aluminium, choose the gold spring.

Do the hooks come in the box?

No. Each spring needs a Nemtek large tail hook to link it to the bobbin; the hooks are sold in a pack of 50.

Is this the ratchet type?

No. This is the spring alone, tensioned by hand. Nemtek's Hybrid Compression Spring 1 is the same 5kg spring with a ratchet built in.

Does it mount on the post?

No. It fits in line on the wire at the end of a strand, hooked to the insulator.

Is the box of 50 a Nemtek pack?

No. Nemtek lists no pack size for the spring. The box of 50 is our quantity.

Do I need an installer to buy this?

No, anyone can buy it. The fence itself must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer. Alectra supplies the equipment only.

Need it fitted? Alectra Solutions supplies product only. Ask the branch and we will point you to installers in Pretoria.
