One Nemtek Compression Spring 1, sold on its own to replace a tired spring or finish a single line. It is the standard 5kg electric fence tensioner spring in Nemtek's range: a silver stainless steel spring inside a black UV stabilised plastic body, fitted in line on the wire to hold a constant pull on the strand. Nemtek rates it for wire up to 1.2mm and says it works with any type of fence wire. For a full fence, the box of 50 is on its own page.
What you get
- 1 Nemtek Compression Spring 1, black body (ES-CNT)
How it fits on the fence
The spring sits in line on the wire at the end of a strand, between the wire and the insulator. A Nemtek large tail hook makes the quick connection from the spring to a flat bar or round bar bobbin, and a ferrule or line clamp fixes the wire. Nemtek's instruction sheet has you preload the spring with a nail before fixing the wire. It is not a post fitting and it does not bolt to the bracket.
Silver 5kg or gold 8kg?
Nemtek's spring colours are tension classes, not grades. Silver is the standard 5kg spring, rated for wire up to 1.2mm, which makes it the match for 1.2mm galvanised and 1.2mm stainless steel wire. Gold is the medium 8kg spring, which Nemtek pairs with 1.6mm aluminium wire; on this site that is the Hybrid Compression Spring 2, which has a ratchet built in. These silver springs are also the ones we supply in our 6 line and 8 line fence kits, which run 1.6mm aluminium wire. If you want more pull on aluminium wire, step up to the gold spring.
Stainless spring, plastic body
The spring is stainless steel, not galvanised, and the black is a plastic body, not a coating. The UV stabilised plastic inner between spring and wire stops galvanic reaction. Nemtek rates it for -40 to 80°C and fence voltages from 0 to 12kV. Nemtek also makes a white-bodied version (ES-CNTW).
Spring only, or spring with ratchet?
Compression Spring 1 is the spring alone: you pull the strand tight by hand and fix it. If you would rather wind the tension on with a 1/4 inch ratchet, the Nemtek Hybrid Compression Spring 1 is the same 5kg silver spring with a ratchet tensioner built in.
Key features
- Standard 5kg tension. Nemtek's silver spring is its standard tension class. It keeps a constant pull on the strand.
- For wire up to 1.2mm. Nemtek rates the silver spring for wire up to 1.2mm, with any type of fence wire.
- Stainless steel spring. The spring is stainless steel, not galvanised.
- Black UV stabilised plastic body. The body is plastic, not a coating on the spring. A white version (ES-CNTW) also exists.
- Plastic inner stops galvanic reaction. The UV stabilised plastic inner keeps the stainless spring and the fence wire apart.
- -40 to 80°C. Nemtek's operating temperature range for the spring.
- 0 to 12kV. Suitable for the fence voltages of home and business energizers.
- Fits in line on the wire. Connect it to the end bobbin with a Nemtek large tail hook. It is not a post fitting.
- Sold singly. One spring for a repair or an extra line. The box of 50 is on its own page.
- 1 year warranty. Nemtek covers its fencing components for one year from the date of sale.

Questions people ask
It is Nemtek's tension class. The silver spring is the standard 5kg spring; the gold spring is the medium 8kg spring.
Nemtek rates the silver spring for wire up to 1.2mm and pairs its 1.6mm aluminium wire with the gold 8kg Hybrid Compression Spring 2. Our 6 line and 8 line fence kits are supplied with these silver springs on 1.6mm aluminium wire. If you want more pull on aluminium wire, choose the gold spring.
No. The spring is stainless steel. The black part is a UV stabilised plastic body, not a coating.
Nemtek says the spring maintains constant tension on the wire and rates it for -40 to 80°C.
It goes in line on the wire at the end of the strand, linked to the bobbin with a Nemtek large tail hook. Nemtek's instruction sheet, linked on this page, has you preload the spring with a nail before fixing the wire.
Same 5kg silver spring. The Hybrid Compression Spring 1 adds a ratchet tensioner you wind with a 1/4 inch ratchet; this one is the spring alone.
No. The large tail hook is sold separately, in a pack of 50.
No, anyone can buy it. The fence itself must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer. Alectra supplies the equipment only.
