A pack of 50 stainless steel tension springs with limiters: the electric fence spring tensioner bought in quantity when you are fitting out a new fence, or keeping stock for an estate or a fencing business. Each spring is a coil tension spring with a loop at each end and a stiff limiter wire that stops it overstretching. Fitted at the end of each strand, the springs keep the wire tight as it expands and shrinks through the day. Need one for a repair? The same spring is sold singly.
How many electric fence spring tensioners does a fence need?
As a guide, our 6 line and 8 line electric fence kits allow two springs per line. On that basis a pack of 50 covers 25 lines: four 6 line fences, three 8 line fences with a couple spare, or one long fence split into more tensioning runs. Count your lines and runs before you order.
Why the limiter matters on a whole fence
A coil spring stretched past its limit does not pull back to its original length, and that strand goes slack. On a fence with 24 or 32 strands you do not want to hunt for the one spring that has given up. The limiter is a stiff hairpin of wire on each spring that takes the pull once the spring reaches its allowed length, so every spring keeps its tension after a knock or a hard pull.
Fitting and tensioning
Hook one loop onto the fence wire and the other onto the spring hook or end insulator at the bracket, pull the strand tight and make it off with a line clamp or ferrule. These springs have no ratchet, so the tension is set when the wire is made off. For a spring you can tighten again later, the Nemtek Hybrid Compression Spring 1 in a 50 pack has a ratchet built in.
Pairs well with
Nemtek 1.6mm aluminium fence wire, 1000m, 1.2mm galvanised wire, 8 line and 6 line square tube brackets, and a Nemtek Merlin Stealth M18S or M28S dual zone energizer to drive the fence.
Key features
- Fifty springs in one pack. Enough to tension every strand on a bigger fence, or to keep as stock for an estate or fencing business.
- Stainless steel spring. Stainless steel resists rust on a fence that stands in the weather all year, though no steel is proof against it.
- Limiter on every spring. A stiff limiter wire stops each spring stretching past its limit, so no strand goes slack after a knock or a hard pull.
- Takes up expansion and contraction. Fence wire grows in the heat and shrinks in the cold. The spring takes up that movement so the strand stays tight between the brackets.
- Loop at each end. One loop hooks onto the fence wire, the other onto the spring hook or end insulator at the bracket.
- No ratchet. Tension is set by hand when the wire is made off. For a spring you can re-tension later, see the Nemtek Hybrid Compression Spring 1 in a 50 pack.
- Same spring as the single. Buy one for a repair, or this pack of 50 for a new fence.

Questions people ask
As a guide, our 6 and 8 line fence kits allow two springs per line. So a pack of 50 covers 25 lines: four 6 line fences, three 8 line fences with a couple spare, or one long fence with more tensioning runs.
It is a stiff wire fitted to the spring that stops the coils stretching past their limit. A coil spring pulled too far does not return to its length and loses its grip on the wire, so the limiter keeps every strand tight.
The maker does not state a pull rating, spring wire size or steel grade, so we do not quote them. If you need a stated tension class, the Nemtek Compression Spring 1 is rated at 5kg and the Hybrid Compression Spring 2 at 8kg.
The maker does not state a wire size. They are hook-on tension springs for wall-top electric fence strands. If you want a spring rated for a specific wire, the Nemtek springs are rated by wire size and type.
Not with these springs: there is no ratchet, so the tension is set when the wire is made off. The Nemtek Hybrid Compression Spring 1, also sold in a 50 pack, has a ratchet you can tighten later.
Yes. The single page sells one of the same spring for repairs. This pack of 50 is for a new fence or for keeping stock.
No. Alectra supplies the equipment only. An electric fence must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer, who issues the compliance certificate.
