The Nemtek Merlin Stealth M18S is a single zone electric fence energizer for homes, smallholdings and business premises. Nemtek rates it at 7.6 joules into a 500 ohm load with an open-circuit voltage of 8500V. It runs on 240V mains and has a 12V 7Ah backup battery built in, so the fence stays live through load shedding. The magnetic tag that arms and disarms it is in the box.
What's in the box
- Merlin Stealth M18S energizer
- 12V 7Ah backup battery
- Energizer tag
- 4 nail-in anchors
Which Nemtek energizer do you need?
The M18S watches the whole fence as one zone. If you want the fence split in two, so the alarm tells you which side was touched, choose the Merlin Stealth M28S dual zone energizer. For a smaller fence, the Nemtek Wizord 4i gives 3.7 joules in a more compact unit.
Battery backup is built in
The 12V 7Ah battery sits inside the energizer and is kept charged from the mains. Nemtek rates the standby time at 6 hours. When the battery gets old, replace it with a 12V 7Ah sealed lead acid battery such as our G-MAX7 12V 7.2Ah battery.
Tag, keypad or phone
Hold the tag over the Nemtek logo on the front of the unit to switch the fence on or off. Add the optional Merlin Stealth keypad to arm and disarm it from inside the house (up to 4 keypads or FOBs, on a cable of up to 100m). With the Nemtek Connect WiFi gateway, sold separately, you can also control it from the Nemtek Connect app on your phone.
Gate inputs and alarm outputs
Two gate inputs let the energizer raise an alarm when a gate is opened while the fence is armed. There is a 12V siren output and two strobe outputs, and it can trigger an armed response radio or a GSM module. The M18S has high and low voltage modes: Nemtek recommends the low voltage mode where children are near the fence.
Where to mount it
The M18S is rated IPx4, so it needs a covered position out of direct rain. For an exposed wall, fit it in the DTS MS5 weatherproof box, which takes the M18S.
Key features
- Battery backup built in. A 12V 7Ah battery inside the unit keeps the fence live for about 6 hours when the mains goes off.
- Tag included. Arm and disarm the fence by holding the magnetic tag over the logo on the front of the unit.
- Keypad optional. Add up to 4 Merlin Stealth keypads or FOBs to control the fence from inside, on a cable of up to 100m.
- Phone control with Nemtek Connect. Works with the Nemtek Connect WiFi gateway and app, sold separately, for control and alerts on your phone.
- Two gate inputs. Connect gate contacts so the fence alarms when a gate is opened while it is armed.
- Siren and strobe outputs. A 12V siren output and two strobe outputs, plus a connection for an armed response radio or GSM module.
- High and low voltage modes. Run the fence at full power, or in low voltage mode where children are near the fence.
- Lightning and surge protection. Built-in protection for the energizer on long fence runs and during storms.
- RS232 diagnostics. An installer can read the energizer's diagnostics through the RS232 port.
- 1 year warranty. Nemtek guarantees the Merlin Stealth for one year from the date of sale.

Questions people ask
Nemtek rates it at 7.6 joules into a 500 ohm load. The output you get on the fence depends on the power setting and the fence load, so we quote Nemtek's figure.
Yes. The 12V 7Ah battery inside the unit is kept charged from the mains and runs the fence for about 6 hours when the power is off.
Yes. The M18S comes with its 12V 7Ah battery, the energizer tag and 4 nail-in anchors.
The M18S monitors the fence as one zone. The M28S splits it into two zones, so an alarm tells you which part of the fence was touched. Both have the same battery backup and tag.
Yes, with the Nemtek Connect WiFi gateway and the Nemtek Connect app. The gateway is sold separately and connects through the keypad bus.
It is rated IPx4, so it needs a covered position. On an exposed wall, fit it in the DTS MS5 weatherproof box.
Nemtek does not state a maximum length. It depends on the wire, the joints and how much vegetation touches the fence. Ask the branch with your fence length and number of lines.
The energizer runs on 240V mains, so the mains connection and the fence must be done by a registered electric fence installer who can issue the compliance certificate. Alectra supplies the equipment only.
