The Nemtek Merlin Stealth M28S is a dual zone electric fence energizer: the same 7.6 joules into a 500 ohm load as the single zone M18S, but it runs the fence as two zones, so the alarm tells you which part of the perimeter was touched. Nemtek states an open-circuit voltage of 9300V. Like the rest of the Merlin Stealth range this energizer runs on 240V mains with a 12V 7Ah backup battery built in, so the fence stays live through load shedding, and the magnetic tag that arms and disarms it is in the box.
What's in the box
- Merlin Stealth M28S energizer
- 12V 7Ah backup battery
- Energizer tag
- 4 nail-in anchors
Why two zones?
Splitting the fence into two zones, for instance the street side and the back boundary, helps to pinpoint a fault or tampering: the alarm shows which zone it is in, so you check half the fence instead of all of it. Nemtek says the energizer sends maximum energy to the zone that needs it while keeping the combined output within the legal limit. Each zone has its own strobe output, so a strobe on each side of the house can show which zone is in alarm.
Which Nemtek energizer do you need?
If one zone is enough, the Merlin Stealth M18S single zone energizer has the same output, battery and tag. For a smaller home fence, the Nemtek Wizord 4i gives 3.7 joules in a more compact unit, and the Nemtek Druid 15 LCD gives 4.6 joules with a colour-change screen.
Battery backup is built in
The 12V 7Ah battery sits inside the energizer and is kept charged from the mains. Nemtek rates the standby time at 6 hours. When the battery gets old, replace it with a 12V 7Ah sealed lead acid battery such as our G-MAX7 12V 7.2Ah battery.
Tag, keypad or phone
Hold the tag over the Nemtek logo on the front of the unit to switch the fence on or off. Add the optional Merlin Stealth Dual Zone Keypad to arm and disarm each zone from inside the house (up to 4 keypads or FOBs, on a cable of up to 100m). With the Nemtek Connect WiFi gateway, sold separately, you can also control it from the Nemtek Connect app on your phone.
Gate inputs and alarm outputs
Two gate inputs raise an alarm when a gate is opened while the fence is armed, and the energizer has two gate chimes to announce a gate opening. There is a 12V siren output and a strobe output for each zone, and the energizer can trigger an armed response radio or GSM module. The M28S has high and low voltage modes: Nemtek recommends the low voltage mode where children are near the fence.
Where to mount it
The M28S is rated IPx4, so it needs a covered position out of direct rain. A dual zone energizer needs two Nemtek Double Pole Lightning Diverters, one per zone, fitted between the energizer and the fence. The fence and its mains connection must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer, who issues the electric fence system certificate. Alectra supplies the equipment only.
Key features
- Two zones pinpoint the fault. The alarm tells you which half of the fence was touched or has a fault, so you check one zone instead of the whole perimeter.
- A strobe output per zone. Strobe outputs for zone 1 and zone 2, plus a 12V siren output (1.75A maximum combined).
- Battery backup built in. A 12V 7Ah battery inside the unit keeps the fence live for about 6 hours when the mains goes off.
- Tag included. Arm and disarm the fence by holding the magnetic tag over the logo on the front of the unit.
- Keypad optional. Add up to 4 Merlin Stealth Dual Zone Keypads or FOBs to control each zone from inside, on a cable of up to 100m.
- Phone control with Nemtek Connect. Works with the Nemtek Connect WiFi gateway and app, sold separately, for control and alerts on your phone.
- Two gate inputs with chimes. Connect gate contacts so the fence alarms when a gate is opened while armed; two gate chimes announce a gate opening.
- High and low voltage modes. Run the fence at full power, or in low voltage mode where children are near the fence.
- Lightning and surge protection. Built-in protection for the energizer on long fence runs and during storms, with RS232 diagnostics for the installer.
- 1 year warranty. Nemtek guarantees the Merlin Stealth for one year from the date of sale.

Questions people ask
Nemtek rates it at 7.6 joules into a 500 ohm load. The output you get on the fence depends on the power setting and the fence load, so we quote Nemtek's figure.
Nemtek says the energizer sends maximum energy to the zone that needs it while keeping the combined output within the legal limit. Each zone is monitored and alarmed on its own.
The M18S monitors the fence as one zone. The M28S splits it into two zones, so an alarm tells you which part of the fence was touched, and it has a strobe output per zone. Both have the same output, battery backup and tag.
Yes. The 12V 7Ah battery inside the unit is kept charged from the mains and runs the fence for about 6 hours when the power is off.
Yes, with the Nemtek Connect WiFi gateway and the Nemtek Connect app. The gateway is sold separately and connects through the keypad bus.
Nemtek specifies two Double Pole Lightning Protection units for a dual zone energizer, one per zone, each fitted between the energizer and its zone of the fence.
It is rated IPx4, so it needs a covered position. The DTS MS5 weatherproof box is confirmed for the M18S, which is the same size; ask the branch to confirm the fit for an M28S before you buy one.
The energizer runs on 240V mains, so the mains connection and the fence must be done by a registered electric fence installer who can issue the compliance certificate. Alectra supplies the equipment only.
