The Nemtek earth spike is a 10mm x 1.2m copper clad rod with copper clad nuts and a washer, used to earth an electric fence energizer. An energizer needs a good earth. The shock an intruder gets, and the alarm the energizer raises, both depend on current finding its way back through the earth wires and the earth spike. With a poor earth the shock is weaker and the energizer's readings cannot be trusted. Drive the spike into the ground, leave enough above the surface to clamp the HT cable under the double nut, and run that cable to the earth terminal on the energizer.
What's in the box
- 1 copper clad earth spike, 10mm x 1.2m, pointed
- Copper clad double nut and washer on the threaded end
Why the energizer earth matters
Nemtek's Merlin Stealth installer manual asks for the earth electrode to go at least 1m into the ground, and this spike gives you 1.2m to work with. The manual also keeps the fence earth away from other earth systems, so the house earth and the fence earth stay separate. Nemtek's manuals do not give a spikes-per-joule rule: fit the number of spikes the manual for your energizer asks for. Our fence kits come with four, and the Nemtek Double Pole Lightning Protection is best placed within 2m of the earth spike it discharges into.
Connecting the HT cable
Nemtek names this spike with its nut and washer for a reason: the copper clad double nut clamps the stripped end of the slimline HT cable firmly to the rod, so the earth connection stays tight. Use the same HT cable for the live lead-out.
Works with every energizer we sell
The Nemtek Merlin Stealth M18S, Merlin Stealth M28S, Wizord 4i, Druid 15 LCD and DTS Megashock 5 all need an earth spike or a set of them. Alectra supplies the equipment only. The fence must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer.
Key features
- 1.2m long. Enough rod to put at least 1m into the ground, as Nemtek's installer manual asks, with the threaded end above the surface.
- Copper clad rod. Nemtek lists the finish as copper cladded. It is not solid copper.
- Double nut and washer. Copper clad nuts and washer clamp the HT cable to the rod for a connection that stays tight.
- Nemtek part EA-EAN/L. The same spike Nemtek lists for its own energizers.
- The earth is half the fence. The shock and the alarm both depend on current returning through the earth wires and this spike.
- Fit as many as the manual asks. There is no per-joule rule. Follow the installer manual for your energizer; our kits come with four spikes.
- Pairs with lightning protection. Nemtek's Double Pole Lightning Protection sends a strike into the earth spike and is best placed within 2m of it.

Questions people ask
No. Nemtek lists the finish as copper cladded: a copper layer over the core rod. That is the normal construction for a fence earth spike.
Nemtek's Merlin Stealth installer manual asks for at least 1m in the ground. Drive the spike in and leave the threaded end above the surface for the cable.
Follow the installer manual for your energizer. Nemtek gives no per-joule rule, and some of its manuals ask for more than one spike. Our electric fence kits come with four.
Strip the HT cable, slip the bare end under the washer and tighten the copper clad double nut on it. Run the cable to the earth terminal on the energizer.
No. Nemtek's manual keeps the fence earth away from other earth systems. Give the energizer its own spike or spikes and keep them the distance the manual sets.
Yes. Without a good earth the shock is weaker and the energizer's readings cannot be trusted. If a fence seems weak, the earth is one of the first things an installer checks.
Your registered electric fence installer, who also measures the earth and certifies the fence. Alectra supplies the spike only.
