The DTS Megashock 5 joule energizer is a South African made electric fence energizer with the remote receiver built in, so you arm and disarm the fence from the two remotes in the box rather than from a keypad. DTS rates it as a true 5 joule output. It runs on 230V mains with a 12V 7Ah backup battery inside, good for about 17 hours of standby, and the front panel shows the fence condition and alarms on indicator lights. It is an indoor unit: on an exposed wall it goes in the DTS MS5 weatherproof box.

What's in the box

  • DTS Megashock 5 energizer
  • 12V 7Ah backup battery
  • 2 x DTS remotes

Remotes instead of a keypad

The receiver is on the energizer board, so there is no separate receiver to wire in. Channel 1 on the remote arms and disarms the fence and channel 2 is the panic button, which sets off the siren in an emergency. The energizer also has a key switch input and a normally open gate contact input, so a gate can be wired to alarm the fence.

Which energizer do you need?

Pick the Megashock 5 if you want remote control in the box and a unit designed and made in South Africa. If you would rather have app control through the Nemtek Connect gateway, look at the Nemtek Wizord 4i (3.7 J) or the Nemtek Merlin Stealth M18S (7.6 J), which are tag controlled with an optional keypad. For a fence split into two zones, see the Merlin Stealth M28S.

Battery backup is built in

The 12V 7Ah battery sits inside the energizer and is kept charged from the mains. DTS puts the standby time at about 17 hours, so the fence stays live through a day of load shedding. When the battery gets old, replace it with a 12V 7Ah sealed lead acid battery such as our G-MAX7 12V 7.2Ah battery. DTS covers the battery and remotes for 12 months and the energizer for 24 months.

Inputs, outputs and alarms

Two alarm relays drive a siren and a strobe. The gate input has a 1 or 3 minute delay, and the alarms and sensitivity are user configurable, so the fence can be set to suit the site. A tamper alarm and surge protection are built in. The indicator lights are Power, Service, Fence, Gate and RX.

Where to mount it

DTS makes the Megashock 5 for indoor installation. On an outside wall, fit it in the DTS MS5 weatherproof box, which is made for it. Fit a lightning diverter between the energizer and the fence. The unit is NRCS certified (ref 7357 10 14), complies with SANS IEC 60335-2-76 and is designed and made in South Africa. The fence and its mains connection must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer, who issues the electric fence system certificate. Alectra supplies the equipment only.

Key features
  • Receiver built in. The DTS receiver is on the board, so the fence is armed and disarmed from the remotes in the box with nothing extra to wire in.
  • Panic button on the remote. Channel 2 on the remote sets off the siren, so you can raise the alarm from anywhere in range.
  • Battery backup built in. A 12V 7Ah battery inside the unit keeps the fence live for about 17 hours when the mains goes off.
  • Fence condition at a glance. Power, Service, Fence, Gate and RX lights show the state of the fence and alarms on the front panel.
  • Two alarm relays. One relay for a siren and one for a strobe.
  • Gate and key switch inputs. A normally open gate contact input with a 1 or 3 minute delay, and a key switch input.
  • Configurable alarms and sensitivity. The alarms and sensitivity can be set to suit the site.
  • Tamper alarm and surge protection. A built-in tamper alarm and integrated surge protection.
  • Certified and made in South Africa. NRCS certified (ref 7357 10 14), complies with SANS IEC 60335-2-76, designed and made in SA.
  • 24 month warranty. DTS covers the energizer for 24 months from the invoice date, and the battery and remotes for 12 months.

Questions people ask
How many joules does the DTS Megashock 5 put out?

DTS rates the Megashock 5 as a true 5 joule output. DTS does not publish stored joules or an open-circuit voltage, so we do not quote them.

Are the remotes and battery in the box?

Yes. The energizer ships with its 12V 7Ah battery and two DTS remotes. The receiver is built into the energizer.

How long does it run on the battery?

About 17 hours on a charged battery, according to DTS. The time depends on the state of the fence and the age of the battery.

Can I mount it outside?

Not on its own. DTS makes it for indoor installation. On an exposed wall, fit it in the DTS MS5 weatherproof box, which is made for it.

Does it have a panic button?

Yes. Channel 2 on the remote sets off the siren relay, so you can trigger the alarm from the remote.

Does it work with a Nemtek tag or the Nemtek Connect app?

No. The Megashock 5 is a DTS system with its own remotes. For tag or app control, look at the Nemtek Wizord 4i or Merlin Stealth.

What is the warranty?

DTS gives 24 months on the energizer from the invoice date. The battery and remotes carry 12 months.

Do I need an electrician?

The energizer runs on 230V mains, so the mains connection and the fence must be done by a registered electric fence installer who can issue the compliance certificate. Alectra supplies the equipment only.

Need it fitted? Alectra Solutions supplies product only. Ask the branch and we will point you to installers in Pretoria.
