The Nemtek Timed Fence Light in blue is an electric fence indicator light for fences strung with stainless steel wire. It connects to the fence wire and runs off the fence pulse itself, with no batteries and no wiring back to the energizer, and it flashes slower as the fence voltage drops, so one glance tells you whether the fence is live and in good order. Nemtek rates it visible up to 1km at night and 100m by day. Blue is Nemtek's version for stainless steel wire; if your fence is galvanised or aluminium wire, you need the grey version instead.
Blue for stainless steel, grey for galvanised and aluminium
Nemtek matches the steel wire connectors on the light to the fence wire. The blue housing (SR-FL/TL/SS) has stainless steel connectors for stainless steel fence wire. The grey housing (SR-FL/TL/G) has galvanised connectors for galvanised and aluminium wire. We list the blue one here; ask the branch about the grey version if your fence is galvanised or aluminium.
How the timed flash works
The light flashes at the same rate as the fence pulse while the voltage is healthy, and slows down in steps as the voltage falls:
- Above about 7.5kV: normal flash rate
- About 7.5kV down to 3kV: 25% slower
- About 3kV down to 2.5kV: 50% slower
- Below about 2.5kV: 75% slower
It works from 0.9kV to 12kV and with most electric fence energizers. It is a flashing light, not a meter: nothing is printed or displayed on it, you read the state of the fence from the flash rate.
Fitting it
The light uses minimal power from the fence and needs no battery, so there is nothing to replace. The LEDs have a 160 degree viewing angle, which Nemtek says lets the light shine into the secured area only. The body is plastic filled with a watertight compound and rated IP67, so it lives out on the fence in all weather.
It does not replace the warning signs
A fence light shows that the fence is live. SANS 10222-3, as quoted in Nemtek's installer manual, still calls for electric fence warning signs at every gate and access point and no more than 10m apart. The fence and its mains connection must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer, who issues the electric fence system certificate. Alectra supplies the equipment only.
Key features
- Runs off the fence. Powered by the fence pulse, using minimal power, so there are no batteries and no wiring back to the energizer.
- Flash rate shows fence health. Normal above about 7.5kV, then 25%, 50% and 75% slower as the voltage falls through 3kV and 2.5kV.
- Made for stainless steel wire. The blue housing has stainless steel wire connectors; the grey version has galvanised connectors for galvanised and aluminium wire.
- Visible up to 1km at night. Nemtek rates it at 1km at night and 100m by day.
- 160 degree LEDs. A wide viewing angle that lets the light shine into the secured area only.
- IP67 sealed. Plastic body filled with a watertight compound, so it stays out on the fence in all weather.
- Works with most energizers. Any fence running between 0.9kV and 12kV.
- 1 year warranty. Nemtek covers its fencing components for one year from the date of sale.

Questions people ask
No. The light is powered by the fence pulse itself and uses minimal power from the fence. It connects to the fence wire and nothing else.
Nemtek matches the steel wire connectors on the light to the fence wire. The blue housing has stainless steel connectors for stainless steel wire; the grey housing has galvanised connectors for galvanised and aluminium wire.
The grey Nemtek Timed Fence Light (SR-FL/TL/G). This listing is the blue stainless steel version; ask the branch about the grey one.
Not as a number. Nothing is printed or displayed on the light. It flashes at the normal rate above about 7.5kV and slows down in steps as the voltage drops, so a slow flash means the fence needs attention.
Nemtek rates it at 100m by day and up to 1km at night.
Yes. The body is plastic filled with a watertight compound and rated IP67.
No. Warning signs are still required at every gate and access point and no more than 10m apart, per SANS 10222-3 as quoted in Nemtek's installer manual. The light only shows that the fence is live.
