The 80kg torsion spring carries a yellow stripe and sits between the 70kg (white) and the 90kg (orange) in our garage door springs range. You get one spring, left-wound or right-wound, for a sectional garage door. It is the same spring as the 80kg Yellow option on the all-weights page, so buy it from whichever page you prefer.
Which doors suit 80kg garage door springs
The 80kg is for heavy double sectional doors. If your door is lighter, the 70kg is one step down. For a heavier double door or a caravan-height door, look at the 90kg or the 100kg. As with every weight, the best guide is the spring already on the door: match its kg and its wind. If you are unsure, have your installer check the door before you buy.
The yellow stripe
Yellow marks the 80kg in our supplier's colour code. It is not an industry standard, so do not assume another supplier's yellow spring is 80kg. The stripe runs the length of the coils and helps the installer count turns while winding.
Getting the wind right
Weight is only half the order. Torsion springs are left-wound or right-wound, and a spring wound the wrong way will not do the job. Pick Left or Right to match the spring coming off the door. If you are unsure, have your installer look at it first.
Safety: leave spring work to an installer
A torsion spring stores a lot of energy, and the cables, drums and brackets it works with are under high tension too. Spring and cable work should be done by an experienced garage door installer. Alectra Solutions supplies the parts only. A spring change is also a good time to look at the lifting cables, the cable drums and the centre bearing plate the springs anchor to.

Questions people ask
One spring. If your door runs two springs, replace both at the same time and order each one with the wind of the spring it replaces.
Your garage door installer can tell from the spring on the door. Order the same wind as the old one, because a spring wound the other way will not work in its place.
Yes. It is the same 80kg spring, listed on its own page as well.
No. It is a torsion spring for sectional garage doors, not for roll-up doors.
In South Africa the 90kg and 100kg springs are used on heavy double and caravan-height doors. Matching the old spring is the safest guide, and your installer can tell you which weight your door needs.
No. Alectra Solutions supplies the equipment only. Spring and cable work should be done by an experienced garage door installer because the parts are under high tension.
