This 18 channel CCTV power supply box is the big one: 20A (240W) of 12V DC across 18 outputs, about 1.1A each, with PTC auto-reset fuses, in a lockable grey metal box. It is made for a 16 camera system and leaves two outputs to spare for cameras you add later. Next to the 9 channel 12V 10A box it has twice the outputs and twice the current. Next to the Hikvision 16 channel power supply, which shares 8A over 16 outputs (0.5A each), it gives more than double the current per camera.
What's in the box
- 1 x 18 channel 12V 20A CCTV power supply box
Cameras, camera cable, DC plugs and the DVR are sold separately.
Built for a 16 camera system
18 is not a DVR size, so there is no 18 channel DVR to match. The 18 outputs are there so a 16 camera system on the HiLook 16 channel eSSD DVR has two outputs left over. With all 18 in use the 20A works out at about 1.1A per output. Sixteen HiLook 2MP bullets at their maximum of 2.1W each draw about 2.8A in total, and sixteen dual light bullets at 3.2W each about 4.3A, so there is a lot of headroom. To check any camera, divide its watts by 12 to get amps.
18 channel box or the Hikvision 16 channel?
Both power a 16 camera system. The Hikvision 16 channel is a compact plastic unit with a 12V, 13.5V or 15V switch for long cable runs, and 8A in total. This box gives 20A, about 1.1A on every output, in a lockable metal case. Take the box when your cameras need more than about 0.5A each on average, or when you want the supply locked away.
PTC fuses: one fault, one camera
Each output has its own PTC (positive temperature coefficient) fuse. If a camera or its cable shorts or draws too much, that output's fuse trips and cuts the power to it, while the other cameras keep running. Once the fault is fixed and the fuse has cooled, it resets itself, so there is no glass fuse to find and replace.
Wiring and mounting
The box runs on 100 to 240V AC. Run RG59 cable with power to each camera, wire the power pair to an output and fit a screw terminal DC plug at the camera end. There is one power LED on the unit, not one per output. No weather rating is stated, so mount it indoors. The system is installed by your installer; Alectra supplies the equipment only.
Key features
- Eighteen 12V outputs. A 16 camera system with two outputs left for cameras you add later.
- 20A, 240W in total. About 1.1A per output with all eighteen in use.
- More current per camera. More than double the 0.5A average of a 96W, 16 channel supply.
- PTC fuse on each output. A short on one camera trips only that output, and the fuse resets itself once the fault is cleared.
- Lockable metal box. A grey metal case that locks keeps the supply and wiring out of reach.
- Wide mains input. Runs on 100 to 240V AC.
- One power LED. A single LED shows the unit is on.

Questions people ask
There is no 18 channel DVR. The box is meant for a 16 camera system, with two outputs spare for cameras you add later.
This 18 channel box. The 9 channel box covers up to eight cameras with one output spare.
About 1.1A with all 18 outputs in use, from 20A in total. Most HD cameras draw well under that; HiLook 2MP cameras use about 0.18A to 0.27A each.
A self-resetting fuse. When an output is overloaded or shorted it trips and cuts that output, then resets on its own once the fault is fixed and it has cooled.
No. There is one power LED for the unit. To check an output, measure its voltage with a multimeter.
It gives more current: 20A against 8A, so about 1.1A per output against 0.5A. The Hikvision unit is smaller and has a 12V, 13.5V or 15V switch for long cable runs. Choose by what your cameras draw.
No weather rating is stated, so mount it indoors.
