This 9 channel CCTV power supply box feeds up to nine 12V cameras from one plug point: 10A (120W) in total, about 1.1A per output, with a PTC auto-reset fuse on each output, in a lockable grey metal box. Nine outputs cover an 8 camera system with one to spare. The 18 channel 12V 20A box has twice the outputs and current and is the one for a 16 camera system. If the cameras must keep running when the power goes off, the 9 channel power supply with battery backup has the same 9 outputs and 10A and takes a 12V 7Ah battery.
What's in the box
- 1 x 9 channel 12V 10A CCTV power supply box, with an SA plug on a 300mm mains lead
Cameras, camera cable, DC plugs and the DVR are sold separately.
How many cameras can it run?
Nine, one per output. With all nine in use, the 10A works out at about 1.1A per output, which is more than most HD cameras need. Nine HiLook 2MP bullets at their maximum of 2.1W each draw about 1.6A in total. To check any camera, divide its watts by 12 to get amps. Compared with the Hikvision 8 channel power supply, which shares 5A over 8 outputs (about 0.6A each), this box gives close to double the current per camera and one more output.
PTC fuses: one fault, one camera
Each output has its own PTC (positive temperature coefficient) fuse. If a camera or its cable shorts or draws too much, that output's fuse trips and cuts the power to it, while the other cameras keep running. Once the fault is fixed and the fuse has cooled, it resets itself, so there is no glass fuse to find and replace.
Which DVR it goes with
Nine outputs suit an eight camera system on the HiLook 8 channel Turbo HD DVR or the HiLook 8 channel eSSD DVR, with the ninth output free for a camera you add later. For four cameras, the smaller Hikvision 4 channel power supply is enough.
Wiring and mounting
The box plugs into a wall socket with its SA plug, and the 300mm mains lead is short, so mount it close to a plug point. It takes 100 to 240V AC. Run RG59 cable with power to each camera, wire the power pair to an output and fit a screw terminal DC plug at the camera end. The lockable box keeps the supply and its connections out of reach. No weather rating is stated, so mount it indoors. The system is installed by your installer; Alectra supplies the equipment only.
Key features
- Nine 12V outputs. One camera per output: an eight camera system with an output to spare.
- 10A, 120W in total. About 1.1A per output with all nine in use.
- PTC fuse on each output. A short on one camera trips only that output, and the fuse resets itself once the fault is cleared.
- Lockable metal box. A grey metal case that locks keeps the supply and wiring out of reach.
- Plugs into a wall socket. SA plug on a 300mm lead, for 100 to 240V AC mains.
- One power LED. A single LED shows the unit is on.
- Wall size. About 203 x 203 x 53mm.

Questions people ask
Nine, one per output, at about 1.1A each when all nine are in use. Most people use it for an eight camera system and keep one output spare.
A self-resetting fuse. When an output is overloaded or shorted it trips and cuts that output, then resets on its own once the fault is fixed and it has cooled, so there is no fuse to replace.
No. There is one power LED for the unit. To check an output, measure its voltage with a multimeter.
Yes, an SA plug on a 300mm mains lead. Mount the box within reach of a plug point.
The Hikvision 8 channel shares 5A over 8 outputs, about 0.6A each, and has a 12V, 13.5V or 15V switch for long cable runs. This box gives 10A over 9 outputs, about 1.1A each, in a lockable metal case.
Yes. The 9 channel CCTV power supply with battery backup has the same 9 outputs and 10A and takes a 12V 7Ah battery, sold separately.
No weather rating is stated, so mount it indoors, close to a plug point.
