This is the 9 channel CCTV power supply with battery backup. It does the same job as our 9 channel 12V 10A power supply box, but with battery backup: fit a 12V 7Ah battery inside the case and it takes over when the mains goes off, so the cameras keep running through load shedding. It gives 12V DC at 10A in total across 9 outputs, runs on 100 to 240V AC and comes in a lockable grey metal box. The battery is not included: add a 12V 7.2Ah sealed lead acid battery. How long the cameras run depends on the battery and on what the cameras draw, as worked out below.
What's in the box
- 1 x 9 channel 12V 10A CCTV power supply with battery backup, in a lockable metal box
- Battery not included
- No mains lead included
Which battery does it take?
One 12V 7Ah battery, such as our 12V 7.2Ah AGM sealed lead acid battery. The battery sits inside the metal case, so it is locked away with the power supply. While the mains is on, the unit runs the cameras and keeps the battery charged. When the mains goes off, the cameras carry on from the battery, and the battery recharges when the power comes back.
How long will the cameras run on battery?
A simple guide: the battery's Ah divided by the total amps your cameras draw gives the hours, before losses. To get a camera's amps, divide its watts by 12.
- Four HiLook 2MP bullets at their maximum of 2.1W each draw 8.4W, which is 0.7A. 7Ah divided by 0.7A gives about 10 hours.
- Eight HiLook 2MP dual light bullets at 3.2W each draw 25.6W, about 2.1A. 7Ah divided by 2.1A gives just over 3 hours.
Treat these as the best case. The real time is shorter, because a battery loses capacity as it ages and lasts longer if it is not run completely flat.
Keep the DVR recording too
The battery keeps the cameras powered. Recording only carries on if the DVR, such as the HiLook 8 channel eSSD DVR, also has backup power, so plan backup for the DVR as well, and for the router if you watch the cameras on your phone.
Wiring and mounting
Each of the 9 outputs feeds one camera. Run RG59 cable with power to each camera, wire the power pair to an output and fit a screw terminal DC plug at the camera end. No mains lead comes in the box, so allow for the mains connection. The box is about 355 x 190 x 83mm and locks. For a 16 camera system without battery backup, see the 18 channel 12V 20A box. The system is installed by your installer; Alectra supplies the equipment only.
Key features
- Battery backup for the cameras. When the mains goes off, the cameras run from the battery; it recharges when the power is back.
- Takes a 12V 7Ah battery. One 12V 7Ah battery, sold separately.
- Nine outputs, 10A in total. One camera per output, from a single 12V DC supply.
- Wide mains input. Runs on 100 to 240V AC.
- Lockable metal box. Grey metal case about 355 x 190 x 83mm that locks.
- Easy runtime maths. Battery Ah divided by total camera amps gives the hours, before losses.

Questions people ask
No. It takes one 12V 7Ah battery, sold separately, such as our 12V 7.2Ah AGM sealed lead acid battery.
We list it for a 12V 7Ah battery only. Bigger batteries are physically larger, so we do not claim they fit.
Divide the battery's Ah by the total amps of your cameras for a best case figure. Four HiLook 2MP bullets (0.7A in total) give about 10 hours on a 7Ah battery; eight dual light bullets (about 2.1A) give just over 3 hours. Expect less as the battery ages.
Only if the DVR has backup power too. This unit keeps the cameras running; the recorder needs its own backup.
It works like a small UPS for the cameras: it runs them from the mains and switches to the battery when the mains fails. It is a 12V DC supply for cameras, not a UPS for 230V equipment.
Both have 9 outputs and 10A. This one adds battery backup and is in a bigger box, about 355 x 190 x 83mm against about 203 x 203 x 53mm. The plain box has a PTC fuse on each output and an SA plug on a 300mm lead.
Nine, one per output, from 10A in total. On battery, the more the cameras draw, the shorter the run time.
