The Hikvision DS-2FA1205-C8 is the 8 channel unit in the family, and the one to read carefully: each of its eight outputs gives 12V DC at up to 1A, but the total is 60W, or 5A across all eight, so all 8 outputs cannot draw 1A at the same time. It is still the right Hikvision power supply for an 8 channel system, because HD cameras use well under 1A each. For four cameras at full load, take the Hikvision 4 channel (48W); for up to 16, the Hikvision 16 channel (96W). It runs on 150 to 285V AC and has a 12V, 13.5V or 15V cable length switch.
What's in the box
- 1 x Hikvision DS-2FA1205-C8 8 channel power supply
Hikvision's datasheet does not list any other contents. Cameras, cable, DC plugs and the DVR are sold separately.
5A shared over 8 outputs: the load maths
Add up what your cameras draw and keep the total under 5A, with no single camera over 1A. To get a camera's amps, divide its watts by 12. Eight HiLook 2MP bullets at their maximum of 2.1W each come to about 1.4A in total, and eight HiLook 2MP dual light bullets at 3.2W each to about 2.1A, both well inside 5A. Spread over all eight outputs, 5A works out at about 0.6A per camera on average. If your cameras need more than that, the 9 channel 12V 10A power supply box gives about 1.1A per output.
Which DVR and kit it goes with
This is the power supply for an eight camera system on the HiLook 8 channel Turbo HD DVR or the HiLook 8 channel eSSD DVR, and it is the one in our HiLook 8 channel CCTV kit. For a system that has to keep running in a power cut, the 9 channel power supply with battery backup takes a 12V 7Ah battery instead.
Setting the cable length switch
Voltage drops along the power cores of a long cable, so a camera at the far end can get less than 12V. The switch has three settings: Normal (12V), Long (13.5V) and Ex-Long (15V). Leave it on Normal for short runs. On a long run your installer can step it up and measure the voltage at each camera, keeping it inside the camera's rating. HiLook rates its 2MP bullet at 12V DC ±15%, which is about 13.8V at most.
Wiring and mounting
The outputs are terminal blocks, so the power cores of each camera cable are wired straight into an output. RG59 cable with power carries video and 12V in one run, with a screw terminal DC plug on the power pair and a BNC crimp connector on the coax at the camera end. Hikvision rates it for 0°C to 40°C with no weatherproof rating, so mount it indoors near the DVR. The system is installed by your installer; Alectra supplies the equipment only.
Key features
- Eight 12V outputs. One camera per output, at up to 1A on any single output.
- 5A total, shared. 60W across all eight outputs, about 0.6A per camera on average when all eight are in use.
- Enough for HD cameras. Eight HiLook 2MP Turbo HD cameras draw about 1.4A to 2.1A in total at their maximum.
- Cable length switch. Normal 12V, Long 13.5V and Ex-Long 15V settings make up for voltage lost on longer camera cables.
- Terminal outputs. The camera power cores wire straight into terminal blocks.
- Built-in protection. Hikvision lists over current, short circuit and over voltage protection.
- Wide mains input. Runs on 150 to 285V AC at 47 to 63Hz.
- Compact. 144 x 109.5 x 33mm, with a green LED indicator.

Questions people ask
No. The total is 5A (60W), so with all eight outputs in use the average is about 0.6A per output. Any one output can give up to 1A as long as the total stays under 5A.
Yes, for up to eight 12V cameras whose total draw is under 5A. HiLook 2MP Turbo HD cameras use about 0.18A to 0.27A each, so eight of them come to about 1.4A to 2.1A.
No. Hikvision's datasheet gives a maximum total current of 5A and a total power of 60W. For 10A, look at the 9 channel 12V 10A power supply box.
They set the output to 12V, 13.5V or 15V to make up for voltage lost on long camera cables. Measure the voltage at the camera before leaving it on a higher setting.
No. The outputs are terminal blocks. The power cores of the camera cable are wired into the terminals and a screw terminal DC plug goes on at the camera end.
Hikvision does not say how each output is protected. The datasheet lists over current, short circuit and over voltage protection for the unit.
No. Hikvision gives no weatherproof rating and an operating range of 0°C to 40°C, so mount it indoors, for example next to the DVR.
