The Hikvision DS-2FA1225-C4 is the smallest Hikvision power supply we list: a 4 channel CCTV power supply that gives 12V DC at up to 1A on each of its four outputs, 48W in total. That is enough for all four outputs to run at the full 1A at the same time, which the bigger Hikvision 8 channel and Hikvision 16 channel units cannot do, because their outputs share a lower total. It runs on 150 to 285V AC mains and has a switch that lifts the output to 13.5V or 15V for longer cable runs.

What's in the box

  • 1 x Hikvision DS-2FA1225-C4 4 channel power supply

No mains lead is included. Cameras, cable, DC plugs and the DVR are sold separately.

Which Hikvision power supply do you need?

Match the power supply to the number of cameras. This 4 channel unit suits a four camera system built on the HiLook 4 channel Turbo HD DVR or the HiLook 4 channel eSSD DVR, and it is the power supply in our HiLook 4 channel CCTV kit. For five to eight cameras, take the Hikvision 8 channel (60W, 5A total), and for up to 16 the Hikvision 16 channel (96W, 8A total). If you would rather have the supply in a lockable metal box, look at the 9 channel 12V 10A power supply box, or the 9 channel power supply with battery backup, which takes a 12V 7Ah battery to keep the cameras on during load shedding.

How many cameras can it run?

Four, one on each output, with up to 1A per camera. HiLook 2MP Turbo HD cameras use far less than that: the HiLook 2MP bullet draws a maximum of 2.1W (about 0.18A at 12V) and the HiLook 2MP dual light bullet 3.2W (about 0.27A). To check any other camera, divide its watts by 12 to get amps, and make sure no camera needs more than 1A.

Setting the cable length switch

Voltage drops along the power cores of a long cable, so a camera at the far end can get less than 12V. The switch on the unit has three settings: Normal (12V), Long (13.5V) and Ex-Long (15V). Leave it on Normal for short runs. On a long run your installer can step it up and measure the voltage at each camera, keeping it inside the camera's rating. HiLook rates its 2MP bullet at 12V DC ±15%, which is about 13.8V at most.

Wiring and mounting

The outputs are terminal blocks, not fixed DC leads, so the power cores of each camera cable are wired straight into an output. RG59 cable with power carries the video and the 12V in one run. At the camera end a screw terminal DC plug goes on the power pair and a BNC crimp connector on the coax. Hikvision rates the unit for 0°C to 40°C and gives no weatherproof rating, so mount it indoors, for example next to the DVR. The system is installed by your installer; Alectra supplies the equipment only.

Key features
  • Four 1A outputs. Each output gives 12V DC at up to 1A, one camera per output.
  • Full load on every output. 48W in total covers all four outputs at 1A at the same time, with no shared limit to work around.
  • Cable length switch. Normal 12V, Long 13.5V and Ex-Long 15V settings make up for voltage lost on longer camera cables.
  • Terminal outputs. The camera power cores wire straight into terminal blocks, so you choose the cable and the DC plug.
  • Built-in protection. Hikvision lists over current, short circuit and over voltage protection.
  • Wide mains input. Runs on 150 to 285V AC at 47 to 63Hz.
  • Green LED indicator. A green LED on the unit shows it is on.
  • Compact. 144 x 80 x 33mm, small enough to sit next to the DVR.

Questions people ask
Is this the right Hikvision power supply for a 4 channel DVR?

Yes, for a system with up to four cameras. It has four 12V outputs at up to 1A each, one per camera.

Can all four outputs give 1A at the same time?

Yes. Four outputs at 1A and 12V come to 48W, which is the unit's rating. That is the main difference from the Hikvision 8 and 16 channel units, where the outputs share a lower total.

What do the Normal, Long and Ex-Long settings do?

They set the output to 12V, 13.5V or 15V. The higher settings make up for voltage lost on long camera cables. Measure the voltage at the camera before leaving it on a higher setting.

Does it come with DC leads for the cameras?

No. The outputs are terminal blocks. The power cores of the camera cable are wired into the terminals and a screw terminal DC plug goes on at the camera end.

Does each output have its own fuse?

Hikvision does not say how each output is protected. The datasheet lists over current, short circuit and over voltage protection for the unit.

Will it power my HiLook cameras?

Yes. It powers any 12V DC camera that draws 1A or less. HiLook 2MP Turbo HD cameras draw between 2.1W and 3.2W at most, about 0.18A to 0.27A each.

Can I mount it outside?

No. Hikvision gives no weatherproof rating and an operating range of 0°C to 40°C, so mount it indoors, for example next to the DVR.
