The HiLook DVR-104G-M1 is the HiLook 4 channel DVR you fill with your own hard drive. It records four HD coax cameras plus one IP camera, and it has one SATA bay that takes a single hard drive of up to 4TB. The hard drive is not included, so you choose the size that suits how long you want to keep footage and you can swap it for a bigger one later. It records in 1080p Lite with H.265 Pro+ compression, picks up sound over the coax from cameras with a mic, and has HDMI and VGA outputs for a screen. Alectra supplies the recorder only.
What's in the box
- 1 x HiLook DVR-104G-M1 4 channel Turbo HD DVR (hard drive not included)
- 1 x 12V DC power adapter for the DVR
- 1 x USB mouse
The hard drive, cameras, camera cable, camera power supply and the screen are bought separately.
Which HiLook 4 channel DVR do you need?
Take this one if you want to pick your own hard drive and keep the option of fitting a bigger one later. If you would rather not buy a drive at all, the HiLook 4 channel DVR with built-in 330GB eSSD leaves the factory with its storage fitted, but that storage is fixed and there is no drive bay. For more cameras, the HiLook 8 channel Turbo HD DVR takes the same kind of drive, while the 8 channel and 16 channel eSSD DVRs come with storage built in. If you need cameras, cable and a power supply as well, the HiLook 4 channel CCTV kit is put together around the 330GB eSSD recorder.
Hard drive: one bay, up to 4TB
The DVR-104G-M1 has one SATA interface, and HiLook's spec table rates it for one hard drive of up to 4TB. Your installer fits the drive inside the case and sets it up when the system goes in. A bigger drive keeps footage for longer, but the number of days you get depends on how many cameras are connected, the frame rate and how much movement each camera sees, so we do not quote a fixed figure. Recording on motion only, instead of all the time, makes the drive last longer.
Cameras it takes
Each of the four coax inputs accepts HD TVI, AHD and CVI cameras at 1080p or 720p, as well as older analogue (CVBS) cameras, so the HiLook Turbo HD cameras plug straight in: the HiLook 2MP bullet, the ColorVu bullet, the dual light bullet with built-in mic and the indoor turret dome. On top of the four coax cameras it takes one IP camera of up to 2MP (1080p) over the network. Sound from a camera with a mic travels down the same coax, on all four channels. Motion Detection 2.0 is on by default for the coax channels: it sorts people and vehicles from things like moving leaves and lights, which cuts false alarms and lets you search recordings by event.
Wiring, screen and phone
Each camera needs a video run back to the DVR and 12V power. RG59 cable with a power pair carries both, with a BNC crimp connector on the video core at each end and a DC connector on the power pair at the camera. A Hikvision 4 channel CCTV power supply feeds the cameras, and where a run is on network cable instead of coax, a passive video balun pair carries the video. Plug a monitor or TV into the HDMI or VGA output (both work at the same time, up to 1920 x 1080), and connect the network port to your router with a CAT6 network cable for phone app viewing. The recorder runs on 12V DC at 1.5A from the power adapter in the box. The system is installed by your installer; Alectra supplies the equipment only.
Key features
- Your choice of hard drive. One SATA bay for a single hard drive of up to 4TB. The drive is not included, so you pick the size and can swap it later.
- Four coax cameras plus one IP camera. Four HD coax inputs, plus one IP camera of up to 2MP (1080p) over the network.
- 4-in-1 coax inputs. Each input takes TVI, AHD or CVI cameras at 1080p or 720p, or an older analogue (CVBS) camera.
- 1080p Lite recording. Recordings are saved as 1080p Lite, HiLook's reduced 1080p mode, not full 1080p.
- H.265 Pro+ compression. Keeps recording files small, so the hard drive holds more footage.
- Motion Detection 2.0. On by default for the coax channels. It sorts people and vehicles from leaves and lights to cut false alarms, and you can search recordings by event.
- Sound over coax. Records audio from cameras with a built-in mic on all four channels, down the same coax as the video.
- HDMI and VGA at the same time. Both outputs run up to 1920 x 1080 at 60Hz, so you can use a TV and a monitor together.
- Phone app viewing. Connect the network port to your router to watch live and recorded video on your phone.

Questions people ask
No. The DVR-104G-M1 ships without a drive and takes one SATA hard drive of up to 4TB. If you want storage built in, look at the HiLook 4 channel DVR with 330GB eSSD.
No. It accepts 1080p cameras, but HiLook lists 1080p Lite as its top recording resolution, so recordings are not full 1080p.
One SATA hard drive of up to 4TB, as HiLook's spec table gives. Choose the size by how many days of footage you want to keep.
If they are 1080p or 720p HD coax cameras, yes. Each input takes TVI, AHD or CVI at 1080p or 720p, and analogue CVBS; higher resolution coax cameras are not on HiLook's input list. IP cameras connect over the network instead, and it takes one of up to 2MP.
It records four coax cameras plus one IP camera. For more, the HiLook 8 channel Turbo HD DVR takes eight coax cameras plus two IP cameras.
Yes, from cameras with a built-in mic, such as the HiLook 2MP dual light bullet. The sound comes down the same coax on all four channels, and audio recording is set in the DVR's recording settings.
Yes. Connect the DVR's network port to your router and your installer links the recorder to the phone app, so you can watch live and recorded video.
No. Alectra supplies the equipment only. Your installer fits the hard drive, runs the cables and sets up the recorder.
