This is the 100kg torsion spring, the heaviest of the garage door springs in our range. It has a green stripe, the same colour as our light 45kg spring, so check the kg figure before you order. One step down is the 90kg (orange), and the all-weights page lists every option. You get one spring, left-wound or right-wound, for a heavy double or caravan-height sectional garage door.

100kg garage door springs: heavy double and caravan doors

The 100kg is the top of our range, used on heavy double sectional doors and caravan-height doors. It is not an industrial spring: industrial doors use springs of 150kg and up, which we do not list. If the 100kg is more than your door needs, look at the 90kg. Match the kg and wind of the spring coming off, or have your installer work out the weight if the old one is missing.

Green, like the 45kg

Our supplier marks both the 100kg and the light 45kg with a green stripe, so the colour alone cannot tell them apart. Always order by the kg figure. The colours are a supplier code, not an industry standard, and the stripe helps the installer count turns while winding.

Picking Left or Right

Every spring on this page comes either left-wound or right-wound, and one cannot stand in for the other. Look at the spring on your door, or the order it came from, and pick the same wind in the variant picker. Your installer can confirm the wind if you are not sure.

Safety: leave spring work to an installer

A torsion spring stores a lot of energy, and the cables, drums and brackets it works with are under high tension too. Spring and cable work should be done by an experienced garage door installer. Alectra Solutions supplies the parts only. A spring change is also a good time to look at the lifting cables, the cable drums and the centre bearing plate the springs anchor to.

Questions people ask
Do I get one spring or a pair?

One spring. If your door runs two springs, replace both at the same time and order each one with the wind of the spring it replaces.

How do I know if my spring is left-wound or right-wound?

Your garage door installer can tell from the spring on the door. Order the same wind as the old one, because a spring wound the other way will not work in its place.

Can I use the 100kg spring on an industrial door?

No. Industrial doors use springs of 150kg and up. The 100kg is for heavy double or caravan-height sectional doors.

Will this spring fit a roll-up garage door?

No. It is a torsion spring for sectional garage doors, not for roll-up doors.

How do I tell the 100kg from the 45kg if both are green?

Check the weight on your old order or ask your installer. The 45kg is a light single-door spring, so the two are very different even though the stripe colour is the same.

Do you fit garage door springs?

No. Alectra Solutions supplies the equipment only. Spring and cable work should be done by an experienced garage door installer because the parts are under high tension.

Need it fitted? Alectra Solutions supplies product only. Ask the branch and we will point you to installers in Pretoria.
