This spring mount pulley is a closed clevis pulley that hooks onto the end of a garage door tension spring and carries the lifting cable. Of the garage door parts that guide the cable on an extension spring door, it is the one fixed to the spring itself; the track mount pulley with bolt and nut is the open pulley fixed to the horizontal track. A door needs two spring pulleys, one on each side, and they are sold singly.

Spring pulley or track pulley?

The two are easy to mix up. This spring pulley has a closed clevis, a steel strap that wraps round the wheel and hooks onto the spring. The track pulley is an open pulley with a bolt and nut that mounts on the horizontal track or a track hanger and turns the cable towards the spring. Each side of a tension spring door uses one of each.

Where it sits in the cable run

The lifting cable for tension spring doors runs from the bottom bracket over the track pulley and then over this spring pulley. The pulley hooks onto the end of the spring, such as the 65kg tension spring (red end loop) or the 70kg (brown end loop).

Safety

The spring, cable and pulley are all under load whenever the spring is stretched. Spring and cable work should be done by an experienced garage door installer. Alectra Solutions supplies the equipment only.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between the spring pulley and the track pulley?

The spring pulley has a closed clevis that hooks onto the end of the tension spring. The track pulley is an open pulley with a bolt and nut that mounts on the horizontal track or a track hanger.

How many spring pulleys does a garage door need?

Two on an extension spring door, one on each side. They are sold singly.

Does it fit a torsion spring door?

No. It hooks onto the end of a tension (extension) spring. Torsion spring doors use cable drums on the shaft instead.

Can I change a spring pulley myself?

The pulley sits on a stretched spring and carries the lifting cable, so spring and cable work should be done by an experienced garage door installer.

Which garage door parts go with it?

The tension lifting cables, a tension spring on each side and the track mount pulley with bolt and nut.
