Electric fence sliding gate contacts carry the fence's power across the gap where a sliding gate opens, so the wires on the gate are live whenever it is closed. This JVA sliding gate contact is a two-part set in black housings: one half carries a spring contact, the other a contact bolt with its nuts. Fit one half to the gate and the other to the wall or post, and the bolt presses onto the spring each time the gate closes. For two live wires in series, or an earth wire across the gate as well, see the Nemtek 2-Way and 3-Way gate contacts.

What's in the box

  • 1 black housing with the spring contact fitted
  • 1 black housing with the contact bolt and nuts

How electric fence sliding gate contacts work

The fence's live wire runs by HT cable to the fixed half of the contact. The gate half is wired to the live wires on the gate. As the gate slides shut, the bolt on one half lands on the spring of the other and the gate wires go live. The spring gives a little travel, so the connection holds even when the gate does not stop in exactly the same place every time. Each contact makes one connection; your installer works out how many connections the gate wiring needs.

Which gate contact do you need?

This JVA contact is for sliding gates only. The Nemtek 2-Way Gate Contact carries two live wires in series across a sliding gate, and the Nemtek 3-Way Gate Contact adds an earth contact so the energizer can detect a short to earth on the gate section. The Nemtek contacts take the Nemtek mounting bracket set.

Fitting notes

Line the two halves up so the bolt meets the spring squarely when the gate is closed, and keep the HT cable clear of the gate track. Use Nemtek slimline HT cable for the lead from the fence. Alectra supplies the equipment only. The fence must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer.

Key features
  • Carries fence power across the gate. The gate wires go live when the gate closes and are disconnected when it opens.
  • Two-part set. One housing for the gate, one for the wall or post. Both in black.
  • Spring contact with bolt and nuts. The bolt on one half lands on the spring of the other. The spring takes up small differences in where the gate stops.
  • For sliding gates. Made for a gate that slides shut, not a swing gate.
  • Pairs with Nemtek contacts. Need two live wires in series or an earth across the gate? The Nemtek 2-Way and 3-Way contacts do that.
  • Wired with HT cable. Run the lead from the fence in insulated HT cable and keep it clear of the gate track.

Questions people ask
Does it work on a swing gate?

No, it is a sliding gate contact. For a swing gate look at the Nemtek 3-Way Gate Contact, whose manual covers sliding and swing gates.

How many do I need?

One set per connection you carry across the gate. Your installer works out how the gate wires are looped and how many connections that needs.

What happens when the gate opens?

The two halves part and the gate wires lose power. Whether the energizer raises an alarm depends on how the gate section is wired and whether a gate input is used.

Does it carry the earth wire too?

No, each set makes one connection. For an earth contact across the gate, the Nemtek 3-Way Gate Contact has two live contacts plus one for earth.

Is a bracket included?

No. The pack has the two housings with the spring contact, the bolt and the nuts. The Nemtek mounting bracket set is made for the Nemtek contacts, so check the fit before pairing it with this one.

Why is it a spring contact and not a flat plate?

A sliding gate rarely stops in exactly the same spot. The spring gives the contact some travel, so the bolt still presses on it and the gate wires stay live.

Can I fit it myself?

The gate wiring is part of the live fence and is done by your registered electric fence installer. Alectra supplies the contact only.
