Electric fence warning signs are not optional in South Africa. SANS 10222-3, the standard Nemtek's installer manual quotes, calls for a sign at every gate, at every other access point and at intervals of no more than 10m along the fence. This Danger Electric Fence sign is our own standard size plastic sign, printed on one side in black with a shock warning symbol and the Alectra Solutions name and contact number. Two tabs at the top clip onto the fence wire and the corner holes take cable ties or screws. Sold singly: count your gates and access points, then add one for every 10m of fence.

What you get

  • 1 Danger Electric Fence warning sign, standard size, printed on one side, with two wire clip tabs and corner holes

What the standard asks for

Nemtek's installer manual sets out the SANS 10222-3 rules for signs: one at each gate, one at each access point, and no more than 10m between signs along the fence. The standard also sets the sign itself: at least 100 x 200mm, a yellow background on both sides, and black lettering at least 25mm high that will not wear off. Your registered electric fence installer checks the signs against the standard when the fence is certified. For the signs Nemtek makes, see the Nemtek electric fence warning sign.

Fitting the sign

Hook the two top tabs over a fence wire so the sign hangs on the line, or fix it through the corner holes with black cable ties to a bracket, or with screws to the wall or gate. Fit it with the printed side facing outward, where someone walking up to the fence or the gate reads it before they reach the wire. Pair it with a JVA Nite Lite at the gate so the warning is both written and lit.

Our name on the sign

The sign carries the Alectra Solutions name and contact number. If you are an installer fitting signs for a client and want a plain maker's sign instead, the Nemtek sign above is the one. Alectra supplies the equipment only. The fence must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer. The signs themselves are supply only.

Questions people ask
How many electric fence warning signs do I need?

One at every gate, one at every other access point, and one at least every 10m along the fence. Measure the fence, divide by 10, round up and add the gates.

Where do the signs go?

Facing outward on the fence, the wall or the gate, at the points where someone approaches the wire. On a wall-top fence most installers clip them onto the fence line itself.

Does this sign meet SANS 10222-3?

The standard asks for a sign of at least 100 x 200mm with a yellow background on both sides and black lettering at least 25mm high. Ours is a standard size sign printed on one side; your installer checks the signs against the standard when certifying the fence.

How does it fix to the fence?

Hook the two top tabs over a wire, or run cable ties through the corner holes to a bracket, or screw it to the wall or gate.

Why is the Alectra name on it?

It is our own sign, printed with our name and contact number. If you would rather fit a plain maker's sign, the Nemtek warning sign is the alternative.

Is it printed on both sides?

No. It is printed on one side, so fit it with the printed side facing outward.

Who fits the signs?

Signs are part of the certified installation, so the registered electric fence installer fits them with the fence. Alectra supplies the signs only.

Need it fitted? Alectra Solutions supplies product only. Ask the branch and we will point you to installers in Pretoria.
