Most electric fence sliding gate contacts carry only the live wires, so a short to earth on the gate section goes unnoticed. The Nemtek 3-Way Gate Contact (EA-SGC19/3W, crimp lug version) adds a third, insulated contact that carries the earth wire onto the gate, so the energizer detects a short to earth across the gate just as it does on the rest of the fence. Nemtek's manual in the box covers sliding and swing gates. Two live contacts plus one earth contact, in brass, stainless steel and UV-stabilised nylon, with the bolts and nuts supplied.

How it works on a sliding gate
The switch side is fixed to the wall, the side that does not move, and the energizer feeds into it; the plunger side goes on the gate. When the gate is closed, the live and earth wires connect through to the fence wires on the gate. When the gate opens, Nemtek's manual says the current flows through the internal switch on the wall side to complete the circuit, so the energizer does not go into alarm when the gate is opened. If your gate section has no earth wire, the Nemtek 2-Way Gate Contact is enough.
Swing gates
Nemtek's manual shows the 3-way transferring power through a single or double swing gate using Nemtek's swing gate plates (EY-GPAU) and gate locator (EY-GLAU), which we do not list. It also notes that on an automated swing gate the closing force may not be enough to close the gate switch.
Crimp lug version
Nemtek makes the 3-Way Gate Contact in two versions: EA-SGC19/3W with crimp lug connectors, which is the one we sell, and EA-SGC21/3W with brass cable connectors. The installer crimps the HT cable onto the lugs: two live and one earth.
Mounting
The large location plates give the gate more tolerance in how it closes while all three contacts still meet. On a sliding gate, mount both halves on the Nemtek gate contact bracket set (EA-SGC/UNIB), sold separately, which comes with adjustable screws for finer setting. The fence and its mains connection must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer, who issues the electric fence system certificate. Alectra supplies the equipment only.
Key features
- Earth wire carried onto the gate. The third, insulated contact brings the earth wire across, so a short to earth on the gate section is detected.
- Two live contacts in series. Carries the live wires across the gate the same way as the 2-way.
- No alarm when the gate opens. Nemtek's manual says the internal switch on the wall side completes the circuit when the gate is open.
- Sliding and swing gates. Nemtek's manual in the box covers both, with swing gates using Nemtek's separate gate plates and locator.
- Crimp lug connections. This is the EA-SGC19/3W version: HT cable is crimped onto lugs.
- Large location plates. Give the gate more tolerance in how it closes while all three contacts still meet.
- Bolts, nuts and manual included. Two parts with their bolts and nuts and the Nemtek manual.
- 1 year warranty. Nemtek covers its fencing components for one year from the date of sale.

Questions people ask
If the gate section carries an earth wire as well as live wires, you need the 3-way so that a short to earth on the gate is detected. If only live wires cross the gate, the 2-way is enough.
No. Most, including the Nemtek 2-way, carry only the live wires. The 3-way has a third, insulated contact for the earth wire, which is what gives short-to-earth detection on the gate.
No. Nemtek's manual says that when the gate opens, the current flows through the internal switch on the wall side to complete the circuit, so the energizer does not go into alarm.
Yes. Nemtek's manual in the box is titled 3 Way Gate Contact, Sliding and Swing Gates. On a swing gate it uses Nemtek's swing gate plates and gate locator, which we do not list, and the manual warns that an automated swing gate may not close hard enough to close the switch.
The crimp lug version, EA-SGC19/3W. Nemtek also makes a brass cable connector version, which we do not list.
On a sliding gate, the Nemtek bracket set (EA-SGC/UNIB) holds the two halves on the wall or pole and the gate, with adjustable screws for finer setting. It is sold separately.
No. The box has the two parts, the bolts and nuts and the manual. HT cable is sold separately.
