This video balun pair lets a CCTV camera send its picture over CAT5e or CAT6 network cable instead of coax. It is passive, so it needs no power, and it is 4-in-1: it works with TVI, CVI, AHD and analogue cameras. You get two identical units, one at the camera and one at the DVR, each with a BNC plug on a short lead and push-in terminals for the cable. The pair carries video up to 200m at 1080p and up to 300m at 720p, depending on the cable. It carries video only: the camera still needs its own 12V supply.
What's in the box
- 2 x passive video baluns, identical, one for each end of the cable
There is no separate transmitter and receiver: either unit can go at the camera or at the DVR.
How far can a video balun send CCTV video?
Up to 200m at 1080p and up to 300m at 720p, depending on the cable. HiLook 2MP Turbo HD cameras are 1080p, so the 200m figure applies to them. Cable makes a difference: CCA (copper clad aluminium) cable such as our 305m CAT6 roll has a higher resistance than pure copper, which shortens the distance, so leave a good margin on long runs.
Power still needs its own run
A passive balun carries video only. The camera still needs 12V DC, either on separate power cores run alongside the network cable or from a power supply close to the camera, such as a Hikvision 4 channel CCTV power supply, with a screw terminal DC plug at the camera. If you are pulling new cable anyway, RG59 cable with power carries video and 12V in one run and needs no baluns.
Connecting it
Plug one balun's BNC lead into the camera's video output and the other into a video input on the DVR, such as the HiLook 4 channel Turbo HD DVR or the HiLook 8 channel eSSD DVR. Strip one twisted pair at each end and push the two cores into the terminals, using the same colours in the same terminals at both ends. Each unit has 2kV surge protection. The system is installed by your installer; Alectra supplies the equipment only.

Questions people ask
Neither. The two units are identical, so either one can go at the camera and the other at the DVR.
No. It is passive, so it needs no power at either end.
No, it carries video only. The camera still needs 12V DC, run on separate cores or from a power supply near the camera.
Up to 200m at 1080p and up to 300m at 720p, depending on the cable. CCA cable shortens the distance compared with pure copper.
Yes. HiLook Turbo HD cameras and DVRs use TVI, which the balun supports. HiLook 2MP cameras are 1080p, so plan on up to 200m.
No. IP cameras plug into network cable directly and need no balun. This balun is for TVI, CVI, AHD and analogue cameras.
Yes. Each balun pair uses one twisted pair, and CAT5e or CAT6 cable has four, so one cable can carry up to four cameras with four balun pairs. Power still has to reach each camera separately.
We only quote distances for 1080p and 720p. No higher resolution is stated for this balun, so we do not claim 4K or 8MP.
