This 20mm conduit pipe is rigid PVC electrical conduit in a 4m length, for running and protecting house wiring. Being the 20mm size, it goes with our 20mm PVC couplings and the round 20mm junction boxes: the 1 way end box, 2 way through box and 3 way tee box. If a run has to carry thicker cables or more wires than 20mm leaves room for, use the 25mm PVC conduit pipe, which has a wider bore.
What 20mm conduit pipe does
Conduit is the pipe the wires run in. It keeps house wiring protected inside walls, in ceilings and along surfaces. Because the wires sit loose in the pipe, they can be pulled through, and replaced later, from box to box. A neat conduit run also makes it easier for the next electrician to see where the wiring goes.
Building a 20mm conduit run
Cut the pipe to length with a hacksaw and clean the burr off the cut end so it cannot nick the wire insulation. Join lengths with a 20mm coupling, push fit or glued with PVC solvent cement. Put a junction box wherever the wires need to be pulled through or joined, and use 20mm bends for changes of direction. Every fitting on the run must be 20mm, because 25mm fittings will not grip 20mm pipe.
How many 4m lengths do you need?
Measure each run from box to box, add the runs together, divide by 4m and round up. Keep a little extra for offcuts, because the short piece left at the end of a length is not always where you need it. For example, 18m of runs needs five 4m lengths.
Fitted by a registered electrician
Conduit and the wiring in it are part of the fixed wiring of a building. In South Africa that work must be done by a registered electrician, who issues a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) when the job is done. Alectra Solutions supplies the conduit and fittings only.
Key features
- 20mm size. Fits our 20mm PVC couplings and round 20mm junction boxes.
- 4m length. Cut to the length you need on site with a hacksaw.
- Rigid PVC conduit. Electrical conduit for house wiring, not flexible pipe.
- Protects the wiring. Wires run inside the pipe, in walls, ceilings or along surfaces.
- Simple joints. Couplings are push fit, or glued with PVC solvent cement.

Questions people ask
No. 20mm conduit needs 20mm couplings, bends and junction boxes. 25mm fittings are made for 25mm conduit.
When the run has to carry thicker cables or more wires than 20mm leaves room for. Your electrician chooses the size for each run.
Use a 20mm PVC coupling. It is push fit, or you can glue it with PVC solvent cement for a firm joint.
That depends on the size of the wires and the circuits in the run. Your electrician works out how many each run can take.
Conduit is part of the fixed wiring, so a registered electrician must do the work and issue a Certificate of Compliance (CoC). Alectra supplies the materials only.
