This plain 20mm PVC conduit coupling is a short straight sleeve that joins two lengths of 20mm PVC conduit pipe end to end. Push a pipe end into each side for a push fit joint, or glue both ends with PVC solvent cement for a firm joint that stays put. It is a fitting for electrical conduit, so the wiring carries straight on from one length to the next.
Where you need a 20mm PVC conduit coupling
Conduit comes in 4m lengths, so any run longer than that needs a coupling at each join. A coupling also lets you use up an offcut by joining it to the next length instead of throwing it away. Two lengths joined with one coupling cover about 8m, and a 12m run of three lengths needs two couplings.
Push fit or glued?
A push fit joint is quick and can be pulled apart again if the run has to change. Where the joint must not move, glue it: clean both pipe ends, apply PVC solvent cement and push each end well into the coupling. Keep cement off the inside of the pipe so the wires can still be pulled through easily.
The rest of the conduit run
Use couplings with the round 20mm junction boxes: the 1 way end box where a run stops, the 2 way through box on straight runs and the 3 way tee box where the run branches off. Conduit is part of the fixed wiring, so in South Africa it must be done by a registered electrician, who issues a Certificate of Compliance (CoC). Alectra Solutions supplies the fittings only.
Key features
- 20mm size. For 20mm PVC electrical conduit.
- Plain straight coupling. Joins two lengths end to end in a straight line.
- Push fit. Quick to fit and can be pulled apart again.
- Can be glued. Use PVC solvent cement where the joint must stay firm.
- Saves offcuts. Join a short piece to the next length instead of wasting it.

Questions people ask
No. It is push fit. Glue it with PVC solvent cement when you want the joint to stay firmly together.
No. This coupling is for 20mm conduit only. A 25mm run needs 25mm couplings.
One for every join between two lengths. A straight 12m run made from three 4m lengths needs two couplings.
No. It is a straight coupling. Use a 20mm bend for a change of direction.
It is sold as a fitting for electrical conduit. For water pipes, use fittings made for plumbing.
