Electric fence stays brace the brackets where the wires pull hardest: corners, ends, steps in the wall and gate posts. This one is 750mm long, with a black sleeve over the rod, a flattened lug with a fixing hole at each end, and screws in the pack. One end fixes to the bracket and the other to the wall, so the bracket cannot be pulled over when the lines are tensioned. The sleeve insulates the stay from the live wires it passes, so it does not short the fence. It is the stay we pack with the square tube brackets in our 6 line and 8 line fence kits.

Where a stay goes

On a straight run the brackets share the load, but at a corner, an end, a step in the wall or a gate post the tension of every line pulls on one bracket. A stay fixed between that bracket and the wall holds it upright. Our 20m and 30m kits each include four.

Why the sleeve matters

A bare steel stay touching a live wire would short the fence to earth and set off the alarm. The black sleeve over the rod insulates it from the wires it passes, so the stay can run across the lines without touching them electrically.

Which brackets it suits

It is the stay for our 6 and 8 line square tube brackets: 6 line straight, 8 line straight, 6 line top bend, 8 line top bend, 6 line bottom bend and 8 line bottom bend. We stock the 750mm length only; ask the branch before ordering it for the round bar brackets.

In the pack

One 750mm stay with the sleeve fitted and the screws to fix it. Wall plugs are not listed; on brick or concrete you may also want nail-in anchors. The fence must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer. Alectra supplies the equipment only.

Questions people ask
What do electric fence stays do?

It braces a bracket against the pull of the tensioned wires. At corners, ends, steps and gate posts one bracket takes the strain of every line, and a stay fixed between it and the wall stops it being pulled over.

How many stays do I need?

One for each bracket that takes strain: every corner, end, step in the wall and gate post. Our 20m and 30m kits each include four.

Why does it have a sleeve?

The stay runs close to the live lines between the bracket and the wall. The sleeve insulates it so it cannot short the fence to earth and trip the alarm.

Is it one stay or a pair?

One stay, with its sleeve fitted and the screws to fix it. Buy as many as you have strain points.

Which brackets does it fit?

Our 6 and 8 line square tube brackets in the straight, top bend and bottom bend patterns. Ask the branch before ordering it for the round bar brackets.

Does it come with wall plugs?

Screws are in the pack; wall plugs are not listed. On brick or concrete, add nail-in anchors or plugs to suit the wall.

Can I fit it myself?

You can buy it, but the fence must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer. Alectra supplies the equipment only.

Need it fitted? Alectra Solutions supplies product only. Ask the branch and we will point you to installers in Pretoria.
