A pack of 50 nail in anchors, 8 x 80mm, for fixing heavier electric fence brackets to concrete and solid brick. The thicker, longer anchor takes an 8mm masonry drill bit and goes 80mm into the wall, which gives a bracket more grip than the 6 x 60mm, and suits plastered or softer walls where a short anchor does not hold. It is the anchor size packed with our 6 line electric fence kit. For lighter fixings in bulk, such as insulators, signs and clips, see the 6 x 60mm in a pack of 100.

Fixing to concrete with nail in anchors

Hold the bracket in place and drill through its fixing holes with an 8mm masonry bit, a little deeper than 80mm. Tap the plug in through the bracket until the collar sits on the bracket foot, then hammer the nail home. The nail spreads the plug in the hole and the countersunk head finishes flush. Allow one anchor per fixing hole on the bracket.

8 x 80mm or 6 x 60mm?

The first number is the drill bit and the hole, the second is the length. Pick the 8 x 80mm for heavier brackets on concrete and solid brick, and for plastered or softer walls where you want the plug deeper in sound material. Pick the 6 x 60mm for lighter fixings in bulk: bobbin insulators, warning signs and conduit clips.

Masonry only

Nail in anchors are for brick and concrete. On a steel post or frame use self-drilling tek screws. For square tube brackets Nemtek also makes a coach screw and plug set, which is a screw fixing rather than a hammer-in one.

Pairs well with

Our 8 line bottom bend bracket, 8 line straight square tube bracket, the 750mm stay that braces brackets at corners and gates, Nemtek 1.6mm aluminium wire, the 8 line electric fence kit and a Nemtek Merlin Stealth M18S energizer.

Key features
  • Longer and thicker than the 6 x 60mm. 80mm into the wall on an 8mm plug gives a heavier bracket more grip, and reaches sound material behind plaster.
  • Drill, tap, hammer. Drill an 8mm hole a little deeper than 80mm, tap the plug in flush and hammer the nail home. No screwdriver needed.
  • For concrete and solid brick. A masonry fixing. For steel posts use tek screws instead.
  • Plug with a collar. The grey plastic plug has a collar that sits on the bracket foot so the plug cannot be pushed too deep.
  • Countersunk nail, yellow zinc finish. The nail spreads the plug in the hole and its countersunk head finishes flush on the bracket.
  • The kit anchor. The same anchor size packed with our 6 line electric fence kit.
  • Pack of 50. Enough for a run of brackets. Pair it with the 6 x 60mm pack of 100 for the lighter fixings.

Questions people ask
What does 8 x 80mm mean?

8 is the drill bit and hole size in millimetres, 80 is the length of the anchor. So you drill an 8mm hole a little deeper than 80mm and the anchor fills it.

Can I use them in concrete?

Yes. Concrete and solid brick are what they are for. Drill with an 8mm masonry bit, tap the plug in and hammer the nail home.

When should I choose 8 x 80mm over 6 x 60mm?

For heavier brackets, and for plastered or softer walls where you want the plug deeper in sound material. The 6 x 60mm is the lighter fixing for insulators, signs and clips.

How deep do I drill?

A little deeper than 80mm, so the nail can drive fully home and dust at the bottom of the hole does not stop the plug seating.

What is the thickest bracket they can fix?

The maker does not state it or give load figures. The 80mm has to cover the thickness of the bracket foot plus the depth in the wall.

Can I use them on a steel post?

No. Nail in anchors are a masonry fixing. For steel posts and frames use self-drilling tek screws.

Are these the anchors in the fence kits?

Yes. Our 6 line electric fence kit is packed with 50 nail-in anchors in this 8 x 80mm size.

Does Alectra install electric fencing?

No. Alectra supplies the equipment only. An electric fence must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer, who issues the compliance certificate.
