A white 30A isolator switch with two poles, made for a standard 4x2 wall box and the 220V household supply. Double pole means it breaks both live and neutral at the same time, so the circuit behind it is dead when the switch is off. It goes between the distribution board and a single appliance, such as an electric fence energizer, so the mains supply to that one appliance can be switched off at the wall without touching the main switch. The faceplate is a plain white rocker on a plate that fits a 100 x 50mm (4x2) box. A registered electrician must wire it.
What's in the box
- 1 double pole isolator switch, white, on a 4x2 faceplate
What 4x2, 30A and 2P mean
4x2 is the plate size: it covers a standard 100 x 50mm wall box, the same box used for a light switch. 30A is the most current the switch is rated to carry. 2P is two poles, so the one rocker switches live and neutral off together. The rating is for the 220V AC household supply; the maker gives no DC rating, so it is not a solar disconnect.
Isolating an electric fence energizer
Energizers such as the Nemtek Merlin Stealth M18S and Wizord 4i run on mains with a 12V 7Ah battery inside. An isolator on the wall next to the energizer lets the installer cut the mains supply for service without going to the board. Remember that the energizer stays live on its battery after the mains is off, so it must still be switched off at the unit with its tag.
Boxes to mount it in
Flush in the wall it needs a 4x2 wall box. On the surface, use the 100 x 50mm galvanised extension box. Outdoors or in a damp spot it has no IP rating of its own, so fit it in the 2x4 weatherproof box. You will find the boxes and cable in our electrical range. Alectra supplies the switch only; the wiring is done by a registered electrician.
Key features
- Double pole. One rocker breaks live and neutral together, so the circuit behind it is fully dead.
- 30A rating. Rated to carry 30A on a 220V household circuit.
- Standard 4x2 plate. Fits the same 100 x 50mm wall box as a light switch, flush or in a surface box.
- Isolates an energizer. Cuts the mains supply to an electric fence energizer at the wall, without pulling the main switch.
- Plain white rocker. A clean white plate and rocker that matches other white switchgear.
- AC only. Rated for 220V AC. The maker gives no DC rating, so it is not for solar panel strings.

Questions people ask
The switch has two poles, so it breaks live and neutral at the same time. With a single pole switch the neutral stays connected; with this one the whole circuit behind it is dead.
A standard 4x2 (100 x 50mm) box, flush in the wall. For surface mounting use a 100 x 50mm extension box, and outdoors a 2x4 weatherproof box.
Yes, that is a common use: it isolates the mains supply to the energizer. The energizer still runs on its internal battery until you switch it off at the unit.
No. It is rated for the 220V AC household supply and the maker gives no DC rating.
The switch itself has no IP rating. Outdoors or in a damp area, fit it inside a weatherproof box.
The maker does not state it. Your electrician sizes the cable to the circuit and the 30A rating.
Yes. It is wired into the 220V mains, which must be done by a registered electrician who can issue the certificate of compliance. Alectra supplies the switch only.
