A white 12V 40W siren with a rectangular horn, the bigger of the two sirens we stock. It is meant for farms, estates, warehouses and other large sites where a small horn gets lost in the open, and for fence lines where the alarm must carry across a yard. The horn swivels on its base so you can aim it at the gate or along the fence. A 40W horn asks more of a 12V siren output than a 15W one, so check that your alarm panel or energizer siren output can carry the load, or have your installer drive it through a relay.

What's in the box

  • 1 siren, white rectangular horn, on its swivel base

40W or 15W?

Choose this 40W rectangular horn when the sound has to cross open ground: a smallholding, an estate perimeter, a yard or a warehouse. For a house, a townhouse or a single gate, the 12V 15W round horn is the usual choice and lighter on the siren output. Both pair with the 12V red LED strobe so a responder can see as well as hear the alarm.

Check the siren output first

Energizers switch a 12V siren output when the fence alarms, and that output is current limited, often together with the strobe. The maker of this siren does not publish its current draw. Before you wire it to a Nemtek Merlin Stealth M18S, a Wizord 4i, a Druid 15 LCD or a DTS Megashock 5, have the installer confirm the output can carry it. Where it cannot, the siren output switches a relay and the relay feeds the siren from a supply that can.

Mounting and aiming

Fix the base to a wall, a pole or under an eave, then turn the horn toward the area you want to cover. The box gives no IP rating, so a sheltered position is the safer choice outdoors. Alectra supplies the equipment only. The fence must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer. For an alarm panel, use your alarm installer.

Key features
  • 40W rectangular horn. The bigger siren, for sound that has to carry across a farmyard, an estate or a warehouse.
  • Swivel base. Fix the base and turn the horn toward the gate, the fence line or the yard.
  • 12V DC. Runs off the siren output of an alarm panel or an electric fence energizer, or through a relay.
  • Check the output rating. A 40W horn asks more of a siren output than a 15W one. The installer confirms the output can carry it or fits a relay.
  • White finish. Sits cleanly on a white wall or under an eave.
  • Pairs with the 12V strobe. Sound and a flashing light together tell a responder where the alarm is.

Questions people ask
How loud is the 12V 40W siren?

The maker does not state a decibel figure, so we do not quote one. It is the larger of our two horns and the one to choose when the sound has to cross open ground.

Will my energizer's siren output run it?

Energizer siren outputs are current limited, often together with the strobe, and the maker does not publish this siren's draw. Have your installer check the output rating; where it is too small, the output switches a relay that feeds the siren.

How much current does it draw?

Not stated by the maker, so we do not quote a figure. A 40W horn draws more than a 15W horn at the same 12V, which is why we say check the output first.

Is it weatherproof?

The box gives no IP rating, so we cannot promise it. Mount it under an eave or a cover where you can.

What is the difference between this and the 15W siren?

This is a bigger rectangular horn for large sites. The 15W is a smaller round horn for a house or a gate and is lighter on the siren output.

Can it be used with an alarm panel instead of a fence?

Yes, on the panel's siren or bell output, as long as that output can carry a 40W siren. Your alarm installer will confirm.

Can I fit it myself?

On an electric fence the siren is wired by your registered electric fence installer, and on an alarm by your alarm installer. Alectra supplies the siren only.
