In-Line Earth Loop, Stainless Steel, 10 Pack

Pack of 10 stainless steel in-line earth loops. An anti-tamper fitting: the tails fix onto the earth wires and the ring sits between the lines, so a live wire pushed or spread apart touches the ring and the energizer alarms.

An electric fence in-line earth loop is an anti-tamper fitting, not an earthing part. Each loop is one length of stainless steel wire bent into a Z with a ring in the middle. The two tails fix onto the earth wires either side of a live wire, which leaves the ring sitting in the gap between the lines at earth potential. If someone spreads or pushes the wires apart to climb through, the live wire touches the ring, the fence shorts to earth and the energizer raises the alarm. This pack of 10 covers the stretches of a wall-top fence most likely to be climbed.

What's in the pack

  • 10 in-line earth loops, stainless steel

How the loop catches a tamper

A monitored energizer such as the Nemtek Merlin Stealth M18S or the Druid 15 LCD watches the fence voltage. Normally the live wire runs past the ring without touching it. Pull the lines apart, push a live wire sideways or force a gap and the live wire lands on the earthed ring: the voltage collapses on that pulse and the energizer alarms. The loop adds nothing to the fence while it is left alone, which is the point.

Not for earthing the energizer

Despite the name, the loop does not connect to an earth spike and plays no part in earthing the energizer. For that you need the Nemtek copper clad earth spike and HT cable. The loop simply sits on the earth wires of the fence and uses them.

In-line or wall mounted?

The in-line loop protects the gaps between the lines. The wall mounted earth loop fixes to the wall under the bottom two wires and catches a live wire pulled down onto the wall. Most installers use both on a wall-top fence. Alectra supplies the equipment only. The fence must be installed and certified by a registered electric fence installer.

Key features
  • Catches wires being spread apart. Push or spread the lines and the live wire touches the earthed ring, which the energizer reads as a short to earth.
  • One piece of stainless steel wire. A Z-shaped loop with a ring in the middle. Nothing to assemble.
  • Fits onto the earth wires. The tails go onto the earth wires either side of a live wire, so the ring sits in the gap at earth potential.
  • Works with any monitored fence. Any energizer that alarms when the fence voltage collapses, such as the Nemtek Merlin Stealth and Druid ranges, will pick it up.
  • Pack of 10. Enough to cover the stretches of fence most likely to be climbed.
  • Pairs with the wall mounted loop. Use the wall mounted earth loop under the bottom two wires and the in-line loop between the lines.

Questions people ask
Is this for earthing the energizer?

No. It is an anti-tamper loop that sits on the earth wires of the fence. The energizer is earthed with an earth spike and HT cable, sold separately.

How does an electric fence in-line earth loop set off the alarm?

The ring sits between the lines at earth potential. When a live wire is pushed or spread onto it, the fence shorts to earth on that pulse and the energizer alarms.

How many do I need?

No maker sets a rule. Installers fit them along the stretches most likely to be climbed, such as low wall sections, corners and next to gates. A pack of 10 covers a short run or the weak spots on a longer one.

Does it work with my energizer?

With any energizer that monitors the fence and alarms when the voltage collapses, which includes the Nemtek Merlin Stealth, Wizord 4i and Druid 15 LCD and the DTS Megashock 5.

Does it fit angled brackets?

Yes. It fixes to the wires, not to the bracket, so the bracket type does not matter.

What is the wall mounted earth loop for?

It fixes to the wall under the bottom two wires and catches a live wire pulled down onto the wall. The in-line loop guards the gaps between the lines. Many fences use both.

Can I fit them myself?

They go onto a live fence, so leave it to your registered electric fence installer. Alectra supplies the loops only.
