The HiLook THC-B129-P is the HiLook ColorVu camera for outside: a 2MP 1080p Turbo HD bullet that keeps recording in colour at night instead of dropping to black and white. It does this with an F1.0 lens that works down to 0.001 lux, against 0.02 lux for the standard IR bullet, and a built-in white light with a 20 metre reach for when there is no light at all. There is no infrared on this camera and no microphone. It is IP66, runs on 12V DC and connects over coax to a HiLook or Hikvision Turbo HD DVR. Alectra supplies the camera only.
What's in the box
- 1 x HiLook THC-B129-P 2MP ColorVu bullet camera, 2.8mm F1.0 lens, on its adjustable bracket
Hikvision's datasheet lists no other contents. The 12V power supply, RG59 cable, BNC and DC connectors and the DVR are sold separately.
Which HiLook camera do you need?
Take the ColorVu when colour at night matters, for example to read the colour of a car or a jacket at the gate. If black and white at night is fine and you would rather have no visible light, the HiLook 2MP Turbo HD bullet uses IR. If you want both options in one camera plus sound, the HiLook 2MP dual light bullet has IR, white light and a built-in mic. For colour at night inside a room, the HiLook 2MP ColorVu indoor turret is the indoor version of this camera.
How a HiLook ColorVu camera sees colour at night
Two things keep the picture in colour. First, the F1.0 aperture lets in far more light than the F2.0 lens on the IR bullet, so a street light or a stoep light is enough for a colour picture: Hikvision rates the minimum illumination at 0.001 lux with the AGC on. Second, a white light built into the front of the camera lights the scene up to 20 metres when it is properly dark, and it can be set to Auto or Off. Because there is no IR and no IR cut filter, the camera has no black and white mode; its day/night setting is simply Colour. 3D DNR cleans up noise in low light, and digital WDR, backlight and highlight compensation handle gates, doorways and headlights.
Connecting it to a DVR
The THC-B129-P has a 4-in-1 video output that can be set to TVI, AHD, CVI or CVBS, so it works with HiLook and Hikvision Turbo HD DVRs such as the HiLook 4 channel Turbo HD DVR and the HiLook 4 channel eSSD DVR. It does not work with an NVR and has no PoE: power is 12V DC only, at a maximum of 2.4W, and Hikvision recommends one 12V feed per camera rather than sharing one adapter between cameras; a multi-output Hikvision CCTV power supply gives each camera its own output. Run RG59 cable with a power pair, crimp a BNC connector on the video core and fit a DC connector on the power pair.
Where to mount it
The plastic housing is rated IP66 and works from -40°C to 60°C, so it belongs on an outside wall, under an eave or on a pole. At 163 x 70 x 70mm and 152g it is a mini bullet, and the bracket pans 360°, tilts 180° and rotates 360°. The 2.8mm lens gives a 102° horizontal view, the widest of the HiLook bullets we list. Aim the white light at your own driveway or yard, not at the road or a neighbour's window. The camera is installed by your installer; Alectra supplies the equipment only.
Key features
- Colour footage at night. An F1.0 lens and a built-in white light keep the picture in colour after dark, so you can see the colour of a car or clothing.
- White light to 20 metres. Lights the scene when it is fully dark and can be set to Auto or Off.
- 0.001 lux minimum illumination. Twenty times lower than the 0.02 lux of the IR bullet, so a stoep light or street light is often enough for colour.
- 1080p over coax. A 2MP CMOS sensor records 1920 x 1080 at 25 frames a second over RG59 to a Turbo HD DVR.
- 4-in-1 output. Switchable TVI, AHD, CVI or CVBS to match the DVR channel.
- IP66 for outdoors. Plastic housing rated against dust and heavy rain, working from -40°C to 60°C.
- 3D DNR plus DWDR, BLC and HLC. Noise reduction for low light and compensation for bright gates, doorways and headlights.
- Wide 2.8mm lens. A 102° horizontal field of view covers a driveway or yard from one corner.
