This is flat twin and earth cable 1.5mm, and the word that sets it apart is flat. Like our two surfix cables it is 2 core and earth fixed wiring cable, but surfix is round and this one is flat. Twin and earth cable 1.5mm is often used for lighting circuits. It is sold per metre: the price is per metre and the number in the quantity box is the number of metres. Want a round cable instead? See surfix cable 1.5mm, or surfix cable 2.5mm for plug point circuits.
Flat twin and earth or round surfix?
Both do the same job. They are 2 core and earth cable for the fixed wiring in a building, and the difference is the shape. Flat twin and earth is flat, as you can see on the coil in the photo, while surfix is round. Which shape suits the job is your electrician's call, so if you are buying for an electrician, ask which one they want before you order.
Where twin and earth cable 1.5mm is used
The 1.5mm size is often used for lighting circuits. Plug point circuits often use 2.5mm, which we sell as round 2.5mm surfix. These are typical uses, not rules. The electrician chooses the cable size for each circuit, so check with them before you buy.
Ordering by the metre
The price on this page is per metre. Ask your electrician for the total length, or measure each run and add a little extra at both ends for the connections, then add the runs together. Type that number of metres into the quantity box: 25 in the box means 25 metres of cable.
Fixed wiring is an electrician's job
In South Africa, fixed wiring must be installed by a registered electrician, who issues a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for the work. Alectra Solutions supplies the cable only and does not do installations.
