This 85x85x50mm electrical junction box is the compact one of our two square junction boxes. It is marked IP55 on the lid, the lid clicks into place, and it has push-out knockouts so you only open the holes you need. If you need more room for joins, or a lid held down with screws, the 100x100x70mm waterproof junction box is the bigger option. Use this one for joining cables outdoors at CCTV cameras, beams and garden lights.

What IP55 on the lid means

The lid is marked IP55. In the IP code the first 5 means dust protected and the second 5 means protected against water jets from any direction. That only counts with the lid clicked shut and the openings you use sealed around the cable or conduit. A knockout that is pushed out and left open lets water in.

Push-out knockouts

Push out only the knockouts you need, with a screwdriver. Where you can, bring the cables in from the sides or the bottom rather than the top, so water running down a cable is not led into the box.

Using this electrical junction box outdoors

At a camera it holds the joins between the camera lead and the cable run: BNC connectors on the RG59 cable with power and a DC plug for the power. It does the same for gate and alarm beams and garden light runs. If the box is on a mains (230V) circuit, for example garden lights on mains power, the wiring must be done by a registered electrician who issues a Certificate of Compliance (CoC). Alectra Solutions supplies the box only; we do not install.

Is this junction box IP rated?

The lid is marked IP55. That only counts with the lid clicked shut and the opened knockouts sealed around the cable or conduit.

How is it different from the 100x100x70mm box?

This one is smaller, has push-out knockouts and a lid that clicks on. The 100x100x70mm box is bigger, with stepped cable entries and a lid held by four screws.

How do I open the knockouts?

Push out only the ones you need with a screwdriver. Leave the rest closed.

Can I use it as a CCTV junction box?

Yes. It holds the BNC and DC power joins between the camera lead and the RG59 cable run.

Does it come with glands or connectors?

No. You get the box with its lid.

Do you install it?
