These garage door rollers have a nylon wheel on a steel stem, with a ball bearing in the centre of the wheel that you can see in the photo. Nylon is quieter in the track than a steel roller, so it cuts down the rumble as the door opens and closes. The steel stem fits the roller tubes on the garage door hinges and brackets. Rollers are sold singly: a 5-panel door uses 12 and a 6-panel door uses 14.
How many garage door rollers does your door need?
Count the panels. On South African sectional doors, a 5-panel door usually takes 12 rollers and a 6-panel door 14. That covers the rollers in the hinges and in the top and bottom brackets on both sides. Because the rollers are sold singly, you can order a full set or just the one or two that are worn.
Where the rollers fit
The stem goes into the roller tube on the hinges, such as the No. 1 steel hinge, and into the adjustable top roller bracket and the left and right bottom brackets. The bottom brackets carry the spring load through the lifting cables, so never unbolt one to change a bottom roller while the springs are under tension. That job is for an experienced garage door installer. Alectra Solutions supplies the equipment only.
Check the size before you order
Take one roller off your door, or measure one in place, and compare the wheel and stem with ours. If you are unsure, send us a photo with the measurements and we will check it for you.
