These Sentry gate safety beams are the wired set: one transmitter and one receiver, both wired to a 12V or 24V supply and rated to work up to 15m apart with a clear line of sight. With both units on cable, there are no batteries to change. If running a cable to the far side of the gate is a problem, the Sentry wireless safety beams use a battery-powered transmitter instead. Sentry beams are made by Martin Electronics.
How the safety beams work
The transmitter sends a modulated 840nm infrared beam across the opening to the receiver. When a car, a person or a pet breaks the beam, the beams signal the motor to stop. What the gate does next is up to the gate motor and its settings.
Which gate motors do they work with?
Martin Electronics lists these beams for sliding, swing and roll-up operators on gates and garage doors, and for alarm panels. On the Sentry A6 Max, they connect to the IRBC or IRBO input and work with the SAFC beam test.
Wired or wireless?
- Wired (this set): transmitter and receiver both wired to 12V or 24V, so no batteries.
- Wireless: transmitter on 2 x AA batteries, receiver wired to 12V or 24V.
Both sets are rated to 15m with a clear line of sight, and this wired set is O-ring sealed. Alectra Solutions supplies the equipment only.
