This is the right end bearing plate, one of the garage door parts that carry the torsion shaft on a torsion spring door: it holds the right end of the shaft. It sits above the right-hand vertical track, as seen from inside the garage facing the door, and the plate is stamped R. Sold singly, so you can order just this side. The left end of the shaft sits in the left end bearing plate (stamped L), and the middle in the centre bearing plate.

Right or left end bearing plate?

Face the door from inside the garage. The plate above the vertical track on your right is this one, stamped R as in the photo. The one on your left is stamped L and sold separately as the left end bearing plate. A door uses one of each.

Where it fits on the torsion shaft

The shaft is carried by three plates: one end bearing plate at each end and the centre bearing plate in the middle. The right end of the shaft turns in the bearing in this plate, above the vertical track. The right cable drum sits on the same end of the shaft. This part is also called an end bearing bracket or a side bearing bracket.

Garage door bearing bracket safety

The springs and cables on a torsion door pull against the shaft, and this plate holds the shaft, so it is under high tension whenever the springs are wound. Spring and cable work should be done by an experienced garage door installer. Alectra Solutions supplies the equipment only.

Questions people ask
Is right as seen from inside or outside the garage?

From inside the garage, facing the door. The right plate sits above the right-hand vertical track and is stamped R.

Is an end bearing plate the same as a garage door bearing bracket?

Yes. It is also called an end bearing bracket or a side bearing bracket.

Must end bearing plates be replaced in pairs?

No. They are sold singly, so you can replace only the right plate if that is the one you need.

What is the difference between the end and centre bearing plates?

The end bearing plates hold the two ends of the torsion shaft above the vertical tracks. The centre bearing plate supports the middle of the shaft and anchors the springs.

Is this for torsion or tension spring doors?

Torsion spring doors, where the springs sit on a shaft above the door opening.

Which other garage door parts go on the torsion shaft?

The centre bearing plate in the middle, a cable drum at each end and the torsion springs, which anchor to the centre bearing plate.

Can I fit the plate myself?

The plate holds the shaft that the springs and cables pull against, so it is under high tension. That work should be done by an experienced garage door installer. Alectra Solutions supplies the equipment only.
