This Kocom intercom is an audio kit for one gate: a white KDP-601AM handset for inside the house and an MS-2D metal gate station with a CALL button. The two are joined by just 2 wires, up to 300m apart with 0.65mm wire. The handset runs on 220V AC mains and sounds a chime when a visitor presses the button. Kocom states that the kit can be combined with a door opener, sold separately. It is a talk-only intercom; if you want a picture of the visitor, look at the ET Nice 7 inch colour intercom kit.

What's in the box

  • 1 x Kocom KDP-601AM handset (220V AC)
  • 1 x Kocom MS-2D metal gate station
  • 1 x wall hanger

The cable, the door opener and the door opener's power supply are not included.

Wiring the Kocom intercom

The handset and the gate station connect on 2 wires, and the gate station takes its power from the handset over those same wires, so there is no separate supply at the gate. The wiring is polarity sensitive: each wire must go to the matching terminal at both ends. Kocom rates the run at up to 300m with 0.65mm wire, so measure the distance from the gate to the house and plan the cable with your installer.

Power and load shedding

The KDP-601AM runs on 220V AC mains and uses 0.5W on standby and 3.3W while you talk. Because it runs off the mains, it goes off during load shedding unless its supply is backed up. Kocom also makes a DC version, the KDP-601DM, which runs on 4 x 1.5V batteries or an external 12V DC supply; that is not this listing.

Adding a door opener

A door opener, such as an electric strike on a pedestrian gate, is sold separately. Kocom's manual does not give the output rating for it, so let your installer check the lock or strike against the handset before you buy one. The intercom is installed by your installer, and Alectra supplies the equipment only.

Questions people ask
Can I see the visitor on this Kocom intercom?

No. This is an audio kit: you hear and talk to the visitor on the handset. If you want a picture of the visitor on a screen, see the ET Nice 7 inch colour intercom kit.

How far can the gate station be from the house?

Kocom rates it at up to 300m with 0.65mm wire. Measure the run before you buy the cable.

What cable do I need?

Two wires between the handset and the gate station, connected the right way round because the wiring is polarity sensitive. Kocom's 300m figure is for 0.65mm wire. Cable is not included.

Does it work during load shedding?

The KDP-601AM runs on 220V AC, so it goes off when the mains goes off unless its supply is backed up. Kocom's DC version, the KDP-601DM, is a different model and not this listing.

Can it open my gate or door?

Kocom states the kit can be combined with a door opener, which is sold separately. The output rating is not given, so have your installer check the lock or strike before you buy it.

Is the gate station metal or plastic?

Metal. This kit has the Kocom MS-2D metal gate station. Kocom's plastic gate station, the DS-2D, is not in this kit.

Do you install it?

No. Alectra supplies the equipment only. The intercom is installed by your installer.

Need it fitted? Alectra Solutions supplies product only. Ask the branch and we will point you to installers in Pretoria.
