The Gemini Roll-Up Garage Door Motor Kit (2x Single Doors) automates two single roll-up garage doors with one motor. The motor head mounts between the two doors, and the stabiliser door extension in the kit links both doors to the same motor. A 24V DC motor drives a maintenance-free chain through a worm gearbox with a bronze gear, and two 12V batteries keep the doors working when the power goes off. Gemini motors are made by DMI Engineering in Silvertondale, Pretoria.

Battery backup for load shedding
The motor runs from its two 12V 2.4Ah batteries, so you can still open the garage when the power is out. Gemini rates it for about 20 openings a day and notes that this depends on the doors and the condition of the batteries. No batteries are included in the Gemini warranty, so when they get old, swap in replacement 12V batteries.
Will it fit your doors?
This opener is only for roll-up doors, the kind that roll up above the garage entrance. Gemini's standard roll-up setup is for a 2.1m door opening, the motor and extrusion together are 2710mm long, and the best floor to ceiling height is 3100mm. The door shafts must be level, and each door must open easily by hand before a motor is fitted.
Safety and security
Electronic obstruction sensing, force-adjustable in both directions, stops the door and reverses it if it meets something while closing. The two remotes in the kit are programmed at the factory, and the receiver stores up to 30 remotes or wall consoles, so you can add Gemini 3-button remotes for the whole family. The LED light comes on for 2 minutes each time the door runs, and the engaged traveller helps keep the doors closed. If the motor can't run, the emergency release cord lets you open the doors by hand.

Switch off the power and pull the emergency release cord on the traveller. You can then open and close the door by hand. Re-engage the traveller afterwards, because the engaged traveller is what helps keep the door closed.
A 220V wall socket within a metre of the motor head, on a circuit with an on/off switch. The motor comes with a 3-pin plug fitted, and Gemini warns that cutting the plug off ends the warranty.
Gemini gives 24 months on the mechanical parts and 12 months on the electrical and electronic parts. No batteries are included in the warranty, and Gemini asks you to register the motor at geminigates.co.za/warranty-registration.
