This 12V 8Ah gel battery is a sealed lead acid battery with gel electrolyte, made for alarm systems and other 12V standby use. It is maintenance free and the case is about 150 x 65 x 101mm. It is not sold as a gate motor battery: its printed standby charge range is 13.4 to 13.7V, and the Centurion Systems 12V SMART charger, for example, runs at 14.3V. For a gate motor, use the 12V 7.2Ah AGM gate motor battery.
What the 12V 8Ah gel battery is for
The battery is designed for alarm systems: it sits in the alarm panel and keeps the system running when the power goes off. It also suits other 12V standby equipment, as long as the charger in that equipment works inside the battery's printed charge range.
Check the charge voltage first
Match the battery to the charger it will sit on. The label gives:
- Standby use: 13.4 to 13.7V
- Cycle use: 14.2 to 14.5V
- Initial current: 2.4A maximum
Before you fit it, check what your alarm panel or charger puts out. If it charges above this range, as some gate motor chargers do, use a battery made for that charger instead.
Size and care
Measure the space before you order: this battery is about 150 x 64.5 x 101mm. Do not let it heat above 40°C. Because it is a sealed gel battery, there is nothing to top up. It can also go in a 12V DC UPS if the size and charge voltage suit; ask us to check. Alectra Solutions supplies the equipment only.
