The Gemini Sectional Garage Door Motor Kit automates a single or double sectional garage door, and it also suits trackless solid tip-up doors. A 24V DC motor drives a maintenance-free chain through a worm gearbox with a bronze gear, and two 12V batteries keep the door working when the power goes off. Gemini motors are made by DMI Engineering in Silvertondale, Pretoria.
What's in the box
- Gemini garage door motor head
- Sectional extrusion
- 2 x 12V 2.4Ah batteries
- 2 x Gemini 3-button code-hopping remotes
Battery backup for load shedding
The motor runs from its two 12V 2.4Ah batteries, so you can still open the garage when the power is out. Gemini rates it for about 20 openings a day and notes that this depends on the door and the condition of the batteries. Batteries are not covered by the Gemini warranty, so when they get old, swap in replacement 12V batteries.
Will it fit your door?
The standard sectional extrusion is made for a 5-panel door 2.1m high, and the motor and extrusion together are 3030mm long. A 6-panel 2.4m door needs Gemini's longer Sectional Caravan extrusion, so ask the branch before you order. Tip-up doors that use counterweights are not suitable. Gemini also stresses that the door must open easily by hand before a motor is fitted.
Safety and security
Electronic obstruction sensing, set separately for opening and closing, stops the door and reverses it if it meets something while closing. The built-in 433.92 MHz code-hopping receiver stores up to 30 remotes, so you can add Gemini 3-button remotes for the whole family. The LED courtesy light comes on for 3 minutes each time the door runs, and the engaged traveller helps keep the door closed. The motor also has soft start and stop, an LED display, a connection for safety beams (IRB) and is GSM compatible. If the motor can't run, the emergency release cord lets you open the door by hand.
Got roll-up doors instead?
See the Gemini Roll-Up Garage Door Motor Kit (2x Single Doors), which runs two single roll-up doors from one motor.
Key features
- Made for sectional doors. Fits single and double sectional doors that slide up and in, as well as trackless solid tip-up doors.
- 24V DC chain drive. A single 24V DC motor drives a maintenance-free chain through a worm gearbox with a bronze gear.
- Battery backup. Runs from two 12V 2.4Ah batteries, so the door still opens when the power is off.
- 10 kgf of pull. Moves the door at about 11 m/min, and Gemini rates it for about 20 openings a day.
- Code-hopping remotes. The built-in 433.92 MHz receiver stores up to 30 remotes, and two 3-button remotes come in the kit.
- Stops and reverses. Electronic obstruction sensing, set separately for opening and closing, stops the door and reverses it if it hits something while closing.
- LED courtesy light. Comes on for 3 minutes each time the door runs, and the remote can switch it on or off.
- Soft start and stop. Gentle starts and stops on every run, plus an LED display, a safety beam (IRB) connection and GSM compatibility.
- Made in Pretoria. Gemini motors are made by DMI Engineering in Silvertondale, Pretoria.

Questions people ask
The Gemini motor head, a sectional extrusion, two 12V 2.4Ah batteries and two Gemini 3-button code-hopping remotes.
Single or double sectional doors that slide up and in, and trackless solid tip-up doors whose bottom edge swings outside the garage. It is not suitable for tip-up doors that use counterweights. The door must open easily by hand before a motor is fitted.
A standard 5-panel door 2.1m high. The motor and extrusion together are 3030mm long. A 6-panel 2.4m door needs Gemini's longer Sectional Caravan extrusion, so ask the branch about it.
Yes. It runs from its two 12V 2.4Ah batteries, so the door still opens when the power is off. Gemini rates it for about 20 openings a day and says that figure depends on the door and the condition of the batteries.
The built-in receiver stores up to 30 Gemini code-hopping remotes. Extra Gemini 3-button remotes are sold separately.
Switch off the power and pull the emergency release cord on the traveller. You can then open and close the door by hand. Re-engage the traveller afterwards, because the engaged traveller is what helps keep the door closed.
A 220V wall socket within a metre of the motor head, on a circuit with an on/off switch. The motor comes with a 3-pin plug fitted, and Gemini warns that cutting the plug off ends the warranty.
Gemini gives 24 months on the mechanical parts and 12 months on the electrical and electronic parts. Batteries are not covered, and Gemini asks you to register the motor at geminigates.co.za/warranty-registration.
