The HiLook DVR-E04G-B is the HiLook 4 channel eSSD DVR: its 330GB of storage is built in at the factory, so there is no hard drive to buy or fit, and 300GB of it is usable for recordings. There is also no hard drive bay, which means the storage is fixed and cannot be added to or swapped later. It records four HD coax cameras plus one IP camera in 1080p Lite with H.265 Pro compression, takes sound over the coax, and draws 5.4W or less. Alectra supplies the recorder only.

What's in the box

  • 1 x HiLook DVR-E04G-B 4 channel DVR with built-in 330GB eSSD (300GB usable)
  • 1 x 12V DC power adapter for the DVR

Cameras, cable, the camera power supply and the screen are bought separately.

Built-in eSSD or a hard drive?

This recorder suits a smaller system where you want it recording without buying a drive. The trade-off is fixed storage: 300GB usable, with no bay to add more. If you would rather choose your own drive, the HiLook 4 channel Turbo HD DVR ships without one and takes a single SATA hard drive of up to 4TB. For more cameras, the 8 channel DVR with 512GB eSSD and the 16 channel DVR with 1TB eSSD work the same way, and the 8 channel Turbo HD DVR takes a hard drive. This is also the recorder in the HiLook 4 channel CCTV kit, which adds four 2MP bullet cameras, a Hikvision power supply, 100m of RG59 cable and the connectors.

Recording and storage

Recordings are saved in 1080p Lite, HiLook's reduced 1080p mode, at 15 frames a second by default and up to 25 on a PAL system. H.265 Pro compression keeps the files small. How many days fit on the 300GB depends on how many cameras are connected, the frame rate and how much movement each camera sees, so we do not quote a fixed number. Recording on motion only, instead of all the time, makes the storage last longer.

Cameras, sound and smart detection

The four coax inputs take HD TVI, AHD and CVI cameras at 1080p or 720p, and analogue (CVBS) cameras, so the HiLook Turbo HD range plugs straight in: the HiLook 2MP bullet, the ColorVu bullet and the indoor turret dome. It also takes one IP camera, up to 1080p, over the network. Sound from a camera with a mic, such as the HiLook dual light bullet, comes down the coax on all four channels. Audio recording is off by default, so switch it on in the recording settings. Motion Detection 2.0 sorts people and vehicles from other movement to cut down on false alarms.

Wiring, power and viewing

Run RG59 cable with a power pair to each camera with BNC crimp connectors on the video, and power the cameras from a Hikvision 4 channel CCTV power supply. The recorder itself runs on 12V DC at 1A from the power adapter in the box and draws 5.4W or less, about a third of the 16W HiLook gives for the 4 channel Turbo HD DVR without its drive. Connect a monitor or TV to the HDMI or VGA output, and the RJ45 port to your router with a CAT6 network cable for phone app viewing. The system is installed by your installer; Alectra supplies the equipment only.

Questions people ask
Can I add a hard drive to the HiLook 4 channel eSSD DVR?

No. The 330GB eSSD is built in at the factory and there is no hard drive bay, so the storage cannot be added to or swapped. If you want a drive you can choose and upgrade, take the HiLook 4 channel Turbo HD DVR, which takes one drive of up to 4TB.

How much of the 330GB can I use?

HiLook lists 300GB of the 330GB as available for recordings.

Is eSSD the same as a hard drive?

No. It is solid state storage that HiLook builds into the recorder at the factory, not a hard drive in a bay, so there is nothing to fit and nothing to swap.

How many days will it record?

It depends on the number of cameras, the frame rate and how much movement there is, so we do not quote a fixed figure. Recording on motion only makes the 300GB last longer.

Does it record sound?

Yes, from cameras with a built-in mic, over the same coax. Audio recording is off by default, so switch it on in the recording settings.

Which cameras work with it?

HD coax cameras in TVI, AHD or CVI at 1080p or 720p, and analogue cameras, which includes all the HiLook Turbo HD cameras. It also takes one IP camera up to 1080p over the network.

Can I watch it on my phone?

Yes. Connect the RJ45 port to your router and your installer links the recorder to the phone app for live view and playback.

Do you install it?

No. Alectra supplies the equipment only. Your installer runs the cables and sets up the recorder.

Need it fitted? Alectra Solutions supplies product only. Ask the branch and we will point you to installers in Pretoria.
