Get a formal quoteThe Centurion Systems SmartGuard keypad is the hard-wired version: it is cabled to the gate motor or other device it controls and runs on 12 to 24V AC or DC, so there are no batteries to change. Type a valid code and it switches one or more of its three outputs: a relay with normally-open and normally-closed contacts, and two open collector outputs. It stores 1000 codes of 1 to 10 digits, the keys are backlit for use at night, and the black polycarbonate housing is rated IP55. For a keypad with no cable to the motor, see the SmartGuard Air wireless keypad.
What's in the box
- 1 x Centurion Systems SmartGuard wired keypad, black
- Mounting screws
The cable, the anti-knock shield, the SmartSwitch II and the backup memory module are not included.
Three outputs on the Centurion Systems SmartGuard keypad
Output 1 is a potential-free relay rated 3A at 50V (non-inductive load), with both normally-open and normally-closed contacts. Outputs 2 and 3 are open collector outputs rated 50mA at 24V, for negative-triggered equipment or an external relay, and output 3 can serve as an alarm channel for panic and alarm conditions. Each output pulses for 1 to 255 seconds or latches, so one code can open the gate fully, another the pedestrian opening and a third switch on the house alarm. Gate motors, alarm panels and water pumps are typical uses. A push button can also be wired to trigger the relay for free exit.
Codes and security
Up to 1000 codes of 1 to 10 digits are kept in non-volatile memory, and codes can be added or deleted one at a time without touching the rest. Limited-use codes delete themselves after 1 to 254 uses, handy for an armed response company or a garden service. The anti-hack feature shuts the keypad down for a set time after a set number of wrong codes, and an LED shows that it has tripped. Because the keypad sits outside the property, Centurion Systems offers the optional SmartSwitch II, an interface board that only responds to a coded signal from the keypad, so nobody can open the keypad and short the wires to work the gate.
Power and mounting
The SmartGuard runs on 12 to 24V AC or DC and draws 32mA on standby and up to 180mA. The housing measures 79.5mm wide, 38mm deep and 131.5mm high and is rated IP55, and Centurion Systems' 2024 catalogue gives an operating range of -20°C to +60°C. It mounts on a wall, a gooseneck or the optional 304 stainless steel anti-knock shield with the screws in the box. An optional backup memory module stores all the codes and settings, and an optional tamper switch signals if the keypad is forced open or removed. Your installer wires it and programmes the codes; Alectra supplies the equipment only.

Questions people ask
The SmartGuard is cabled to the device it controls and has three outputs, including a 3A relay. The SmartGuard Air is wireless, runs on two AA batteries, has 15 channels and needs a Centurion Systems code-hopping receiver.
1000, each 1 to 10 digits long. Codes can be added or deleted one at a time, and limited-use codes delete themselves after 1 to 254 uses.
1234, and Centurion Systems says it should be changed at installation. The anti-default setting is on from the factory, and with it on, a lost master code can only be reset by restoring a backup, so save the setup on the optional backup memory module.
12 to 24V AC or DC, drawing 32mA on standby and up to 180mA.
Centurion Systems describes the wired SmartGuard as compatible with almost any access control device, because output 1 is a potential-free relay. Your installer wires it to the motor's trigger input.
Not with the optional SmartSwitch II fitted to an open collector output. The SmartSwitch II only responds to a coded signal from the keypad, so someone who opens the keypad and shorts the wires cannot work the device.
Yes. Each output can be set to latch instead of pulsing for 1 to 255 seconds.
No. Alectra supplies the equipment only. Your installer runs the cable, wires the keypad to the motor and programmes the codes.
