dc-male-connector-screw-type
DC Male Connector 5.5 x 2.1mm, Screw Terminal, for CCTV Power

This DC male connector for CCTV is a 5.5 x 2.1mm DC plug with two screw terminals marked + and -, so you can wire a camera to its 12V power supply without soldering. It is not a cable: you get the plug only, sold singly. Put the two power cores under the screws, tighten them and push the plug into the camera's power socket. It is the usual way to finish the power pair of RG59 cable with power at the camera end.

Wiring a DC male connector for CCTV cameras

The + and - marks are moulded into the black body, next to the green screw terminal block. To wire it:

Strip a short length off each power core.

Put the positive core under the + screw and the negative core under the - screw.

Tighten both screws with a small screwdriver and give each core a light pull to check it is held.

At the other end, the same pair wires into an output of the power supply, + to + and - to -. Use the same colour core for positive at both ends, and check the polarity with a multimeter before you plug in the camera. Wired the wrong way round, a camera may not power up and can be damaged.

Will it fit my camera?

The plug is 5.5mm across the outside with a 2.1mm hole for the centre pin: the common DC size on 12V CCTV cameras. Check that your camera's power socket takes a 5.5 x 2.1mm plug before you buy. You need one DC plug per camera.

Where it fits in a CCTV system

On an analogue HD system with RG59 cable with power, the coax gets a BNC plug at each end, either the BNC crimp connector or the screw type BNC connector, and the power pair gets this DC plug at the camera. At the recorder end, the power pair goes to an output of a CCTV power supply such as the Hikvision 4 channel, the Hikvision 8 channel or the 9 channel power supply box. If the video runs over network cable with baluns, the camera still needs its own power run, finished with a DC plug in the same way. Alectra supplies the parts only; the system is fitted by you or your installer.
