CCTV Systems for Home and Business Security

CCTV systems are a critical investment for the security of your home or business. These surveillance cameras can deter or prevent criminals from entering your property and assist police in catching the perpetrators.

There are a few different types of CCTV systems that we’ll go through and that are available at our Alectra stores.

There are two main types of CCTV systems: analog and IP.

Analog CCTV Systems

Analog CCTV systems have been around for a long time and are a reliable security measure. They are also the more affordable option.

Analog cameras require separate cabling to control various functions and can send video over twisted-pair or coax cable to a VCR or DVR. Wireless connections are also available, but they produce lower resolution.

Analog cameras perform well in low light and resolutions range from 420 to 700 TVL, which can produce sharp images in the higher end.

IP CCTV Systems

IP CCTV systems use digital cameras and can be run over twisted-pair Ethernet cable to avoid installing electrical wire. IP CCTV can also be set up wirelessly where it is too difficult to run cable. All signals are encrypted and compressed before being transported and stored on your network.

IP cameras offer much higher resolution (6 to 20 times) than analog cameras, ranging from 1.3 to 5 megapixels. This allows for a wider viewing area and more detailed images even when zooming in.

The advantages of IP CCTV systems come at a higher price than analog systems, but do keep in mind that less cabling is required, which could bring down your cost.

PTZ Cameras

PTZ cameras allow you to pan, tilt, and zoom your video feed via DVR (analog), NVR (IP), or via your cellphone if your cameras are connected to a router. We have these routers available, but you will need to ensure that you have a SIM card to be able to use the router.
